An early example of the platform game genre, the gameplay focuses on maneuvering the main character across a series of platforms while dodging and jumping over obstacles. In the game, Mario (originally named Mr. Video and then Jumpman) must rescue a damsel in distress named Pauline (originally named Lady), from a giant ape named Donkey Kong. The hero and ape later became two of Nintendo's most popular and recognizable characters. Donkey Kong is one of the most important titles from the golden age of arcade video games, and is one of the most popular arcade games of all time.

L'intérêt est centré sur le déplacement d'un personnage principal à travers quatre niveaux en évitant des obstacles mouvants. Si le scénario est simple, il est suffisamment développé pour l'époque : Mario, appelé alors Jumpman, doit secourir une demoiselle en détresse, capturée par un gorille géant, Donkey Kong. Les deux personnages qu'il introduit sont appelés à devenir deux icônes de la marque Nintendo.

It was ported to the Sega Mega Drive in 1991 as Data East's first video game for the console. The game was also adapted by Ocean Software to various home computer platforms.
Midnight Resistance is set in a dystopian future where the player controls a member of a resistance movement who goes on a mission to rescue his kidnapped family from a drug kingpin.

Le jeu se déroule dans un futur dystopique où le joueur contrôle un membre d'un mouvement de résistance qui va sauver sa famille kidnappée par un savant fou.
Le jeu fait suite à Heavy Barrel (1987).
