Choosing my new amplifier, Part 1 (of 3): Peavey Vypyr (again)?
Well, it's been well over a decade since I got a new primary amp, so that means it's time to do it. I like my Peavey Vypyr 75 but have never been completely satisfied with the tone I get from it.
So I narrowed down the list of potential replacements to three (at first). First up is the Vypyr vs. Vypyr comparison. This isn't an "amp shootout," just a sampling of the comparison playing that I did with them.
FYI to do this I ordered several amplifiers from zZounds, who have a 45-day return policy (although I have to pay shipping to send back the ones I decided against). Even paying shipping, I think it's a better way to go than guessing whether the way a new amp sounds in the guitar store is how it will sound back in my dining room! (And just fyi I have no affiliation with zZounds. Maybe other online retailers have similar returns policies.)
