The modern world is at an impasse. Disasters scroll across our smartphone screens and we’re invited to like, follow or upvote, but critical thinking is harder and harder to find. Rather than connecting us in common struggle and debate, the internet has sped up and deepened a long-standing process of alienation and atomization.

Derick Varn and Douglas Lain discuss the failings of a sect of Trotskyism known as "Political Marxism" after discussing just what Chris Cutrone might have meant when he asked Doug to join his effort to create a "Dictatorship of the Proletariat." Can Marx's ideas become politically relevant today? What are the impediments to socialism today?

Djene Rhys Bajalan, Jason Myles, and the Lain family (Doug, Simon and Noah) come together for another session of roleplaying magic after their write up in MerionWest.
"Since the start of November, Zer0 Books has engaged in a serial experiment in 'lefty roleplaying' called Zer0 Quest: Working Class RPG. In this notable departure from Zer0 Books’ usual self-promotional shorts, publishing manager Douglas Lain has joined forces with university lecturer and self-professed wargamer Djene Rhys Bajalan to produce a YouTube series exploring the relationship between roleplaying games (RPGs) and left-wing politics. Powered by the mechanics of the artisanal horror sci-fi platform Mothership, Zer0 Quest sees Bajalan assume the role of game master as Lain and his two sons, Simon and Noah, indulge in a theatre of the mind—charting strange unknown worlds and trying to survive in the most inhospitable environment of outer space. SOTTOTITOLI DISPONIBILI IN ITALIANO
From the Renaissance to the fascist era to the student and worker uprisings of the '60s and '70s, the Italian peninsula has long been a volatile theater of political conflict. In this video, Conrad Hamilton and Ludovica Mancini team up to answer the question: what can the Italian radical tradition both old (communist) and older (republican) teach the Anglophone left today?
Correction: While in this video it's stated that Antonio Negri fled to France "before he could be put in prison," for charges related to his association with the Brigate Rosse, this is incorrect. Negri fled to France in 1983 before he could be charged on account of his association with BR. However, he had already spent over four years in prison awaiting trial—from 1979 to 1983—prior to his flight. Later, he returned to Italy, serving out his sentence (pronounced in absentia during his exile) from 1997-2003 before being released on parole.
Written, starred in and English subtitles by Conrad Hamilton
Directed, edited and Italian subtitles by Ludovica Mancini
