The second-and-a-bit part of recreating a dial. Specifically an etched glass dial as opposed to a printed dial background. For this step I'll use Inkscape - a free and open-source vector graphics program.
I go through the process I use to recreate the letters and numbers on the dial using three different methods to cover pretty much all scenarios, and explain as many of the steps as I can in case you're interested in learning to do this yourself.
In the next part I'll start creating the dial scale itself, and probably the station ID's, and maybe the ship logos too - and in part 3 I'll use a laser cutter to create the dial. While I appreciate not everyone has access to one of these, they are getting cheaper, and places like local libraries or maker groups may have one you can either use, or have them use for you for a nominal fee.
