Series is on ice/cancelled [#6 Remake Undertale in GameMaker ]
This is the 6th in a short series of remaking the battle system which you see in Undertale in GameMaker.
What is Undertale? Undertale is a video game made also in GameMaker by Toby Fox where you play as a child that is being trapped in an unknown world and your job in this linear story is to progress. The difference is that you can genocide monsters, be neutral or even befriend them. This throws the concept of enemies being simply neutral farm on it's head.
? For the future: This series is under construction and since views have been super low, I have to cancel it. It seems the interest and my method didn't bind enough people to actually watch it.
Itorah is a beautiful metroidvania made by the german developer GRIMBART TALES. This game was given to me for reviewing, but all opinions are mine nor do I have any association with the developer or publisher.
Story: You explore as the last human on earth an beautifully crafted world in a central america world style which is being besieged by blight.
Graphics/sound: The game speaks for itself, beautiful labor of love has been woven into this game. Graphics, vfx and animations are top notch! Sound and music is on a high ambience level and was not remarkable but a good overall background noise.
Gameplay: You do what you always do in metroidvanias, you go to a level collect currencies, explore the map, get a new ability/gadget and beat the boss. Then you enter a new area and do the same here. The game is a bit too fair to the player so you will have an easy time with one low hitting enemies and competent platforming sections aswell as simple puzzles.
Why is game is not among the best of the platformers/metroidvanias: There are virtually 3 collectible currencies that enlarge the health, stamina pool or further the healing capacities, which is bare bones. There are no unique items, no equippables, no side quests, no secret areas or bosses. This experience is very linear which no backtracking, no teleporting and no tempting the player with a shiny goodie/enemy waiting for your to come later. All enemies are virtually push overs and you will never feel any real challenge/dread, so you will never remember this annoying enemy, because the game doesn't have it. I personally don't understand why they wasted this labor of love to only produce a solid but standard experience.
Final score: 8.5
Tldr:
+ beautiful graphics, vfx and animations!
+ decend sound
+ competent platforming and combat
+ flawless execution and performance
- no secrets, no unique items, no real challenges
- very forgiving, a bit too easy
- no teleporting between bonfires
- wasted potential, "only" a very good game

This basic video tutorial shows you the main difference between using the shader in the regular draw event and the draw_gui event in gamemaker studio.
As a rule of thumb you can say that the draw gui is being used for screen filling draw events, so if you want to distort the screen with a shader then this is the way to go with draw gui on the application surface. But if you want to change a specific sprite, object or texture then the relative draw event is what you are looking for.

Death trash is a passion project developed by Crafting Legends from Germany. The game is made in Unity for 6 years since 2015.
Story: You are thrown out of a city/bunker because of illness/contamination,
and now you are part of a world of flesh monsters and robots, where your fellow human outcasts are scavangers at best.
Pros:
+ atmosphere and world building
+ good game feel
+ exploration + random encounters
+ local multiplayer/split screen
+ interesting quests,
+ mature/goofy humor/gory
+ memory system by completing quests
+ you can scum Quicksave/load
+ basic but enjoyable combat/loot loop
Neg:
- small raster of weapons/enemies
- gear/armor/skill balance
- optional boss fights are... not very good
- low loot quality (which is okay)
- 3 to 6 hours long
- world a bit empty
Tldr: 8 out of 10 fallout 1+2 homage in own weird world

This is the 2nd video in a series on remaking Vampire Survivors in GameMaker.
The video tutorial shows you how to create in a very simple way to create a randomly generated ground. The idea is quite simple. You have a sprite stripe (or a big tileset sprite sheet) and you loop through all possible tile positions of the room with a double loop to set a random tile from this tileset. Image it like this, you let GameMaker pick one of those brushes/tiles and set to each possible postion a random one. That's it.
You can find the whole code in the comment section.
? For the future: This series will will build expanded the further we go into the series.

This basic video tutorial shows you what scripts are in gamemaker studio. It is basically a function which can be used in multiple ways in objects. For once it can store code into external functions to keep the objects less cluttered with code or it can be used as a template for multiple uses from different objects.

This is the 11th and final video in a series on remaking Vampire Survivors in GameMaker.
The first part of this video tutorial shows you how to make a xp system that makes scale upwards. Before we can make a menue popup system possible we need to block things to like spawing, player movement, enemy redirecting. That we do by a simple check if the an obj_upgrade is present in the room. This object is being spawed if we have a level up and goes away if one of 3 choises is being selected. So we block coin collecting, the spawning of new weapons, player input (to move while an upgrade is happening) and the enemy control loop is being overritten so that the enemies dont animate and move towards the player. That's it!
? For the future: This series will will build expanded the further we go into the series. This series has ended offically with this video. The current project and an upgrade version will be added to my patreons and itch.io buyers.
