This video shows, how we make our beginner students (yellow-belt, Lugsidt) familiar with staff fighting and the difference between show- and combat-handling.
GRABONG (quarterstaff) is an armed PAHUYUTH discipline, that deals with the art of quarterstaff fighting.
GRABONG and other PAHUYUTH weapon fighting methods were used on ancient battlefields and should not be confused with Krabi Krabong, which was invented much later (under King Rama II, 1767-1824 A.D.) with the clear intention of "entertainment, sport and presentation" in mind.

? DAAB (sword) is traditional armed combat with arm-long objects as improvised weapons and the name-giving Thai-swords. Learn more about DAAB: https://pahuyuth.com/en/daab/
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
? Thai-swords were originally simple rice flails (Gab) or weed scythes (Gab Glie). Such tools were already used 4000 years ago against Chinese invaders and over the course of centuries developed into fighting swords.
Typical for Thai sword fighting is using the center-near pivot that enables a high rotation speed and complex movement patterns and the use of the grip for blunt strikes.
Authentic Thai sword fighting is always trained with heavy training weapons made from wood or steel, but never with Rattan oder Bamboo.
The Pahuyuth School in Berlin is the only place in the world where the famous DAAB NARESUAN (also known as “Sword of Ayutthaya”) is taught.
DAAB NARESUAN is a special, single-handed sword style, developed and secretively passed on by a paramilitary special force, that was founded during the Reign of King Naresuan (1590-1605 A.D.).

? DAAB – THE ORIGINAL KRABI KRABONG
After the execution of King Tak Sin in 1782 AD, the old Pahuyuth free warriors withdrew from the public. They went underground and took the knowledge about ancient Thai sword fighting (DAAB) with them.
Decades later, during the reign of King Rama II (1809-1826 AD), members of the royal court developed an entertaining stage fencing for noble people: The so-called Krabi Krabong.
As a matter of fact Krabi Krabong has never been used in warfare. It was never used on historical or modern battlefields and it was not designed for this purpose.
Nevertheless, in many places it is wrongly declared to be an ancient war martial art. For this reason DAAB (war sword), which is taught at the Pahuyuth school in Berlin, can be called “the original Krabi Krabong”.
Detailed information about Krabi Krabong and its history can be found in our blog article: https://pahuyuth.com/en/daab/the-untold-history-of-krabi-krabong/

Part 6 in our series about legitimate self-defense according to German law. Here's the original law 'a teacher' refers to:
German Criminal Code - Section 32 - Self-defence
(1) A person who commits an act in self-defence does not act unlawfully.
(2) Self-defence means any defensive action that is necessary to avert an imminent unlawful attack on oneself or another.
§ 32 StGB - Notwehr

Please note, that some of the techniques in this video are not 100% suitable for self-defense purposes, depending on the laws of the country you live in. We do not take any responsibility and we are not liable for any damage caused through whatever you are doing.
Please remember for a lawful and thus realistic self-defense:
1. Real self-defense begins, when you can not just run away.
2. Real self-defense ends, when an attack is averted.
3. Always stay within the laws of your country!
The self-defense method we use in our videos, was derived from PAHUYUTH.

Ancient Thai sword dances were not so much about art and aesthetics, but about the fighting techniques they are build upon. Therefore only a teacher can perform such a sword dance and explain the all movements it includes in detail.
DAB (Sword) is an armed PAHUYUTH discipline, that deals with the art of sword fighting.
DAB and other PAHUYUTH weapon fighting methods were used on ancient battlefields and should not be confused with Krabi Krabong, which was invented much later (under King Rama II, 1767-1824 A.D.) with the clear intention of "entertainment, sport and presentation" in mind.
Please note, that this video is not about legitimate self-defense (there is a special section for such topics on our channel), but about traditional Thai sword fighting (DAB), which is taught for preservation of cultural heritage. We do not take any responsibility and we are not liable for any damage caused through whatever you are doing.

The Teacher Memorial Day (Wan Wai Kru) - June 23rd
Once a year, on June 23rd, PAHUYUTH people celebrate the so called „Teacher Memorial Day“ (Wan Wai Kru). On this day the teachers of the past, who helped developing, preserving and passing on the fighting knowledge are commemorated.
ABOUT
In distant past, when fighting knowledge was used to defend the country, many scholars of PAHUYUTH lost their lives. Without these teachers it would have been impossible to pass on the knowledge to the next generations. Therefore this day is dedicated to the historic teachers, who gave their lives in order to ensure, that PAHUYUTH could be passed on until the present day.
The six archetypes of PAHUYUTH teachers are:
1. Kru Srietreirat - The creator (Nature, parents, …)
2. Kru Schid - The nearby teacher (the living teacher)
3. Kru Nueg - The teacher of gratitude (own intuition)
4. Kru Tagt - The spontaneous teacher (the advisor)
5. Kru Lag Jam - The thieve teacher (indirect acquired knowledge)
6. Kru Pieh - The spirit teacher (inspiration)
On the Teacher Memorial Day the students of PAHUYUTH gather in their schools and share a certain ritual or ceremony to symbolically pay gratitude to the teachers of the past. There is no training, because there is no fighting on that day.
The ceremony consists of several things. One of them is wearing bright clothing, white if possible. Also it is tried not to swear or have bad thoughts on that day. Instead it is tried to be be kind and helpful on that day.
The ceremony at the school requires three things: Three incense sticks, a white candle and a self-picked plant with pointed blossoms or leafs. In no case, the plants should be bought, but picked by the student on his way to the ceremony - simple grass from the roadside is completely sufficient.
When the student arrives he or she puts the plant, the incense sticks and the candle to a designated place and pays gratitude to the teachers of the past in his own way. After that her or she greets the other attendees.
The teacher of the school usually takes part in this ceremony as a student and tells something about this days custom and its details. Under certain circumstances it may happen, that one of the students suddenly acts as medium and gives additional advice and information to the students.
The ceremony ends with a casual get together. For students who take part in the Teacher Memorial Day for the first time, it is usually an exceptional and interesting experience, that gives them deeper insights into the cultural aspects of PAHUYUTH.
