First session of my playthrough of The Outer Worlds w/Intellectual Embargo. Our aim is to analyze and comment on Obsidian's (Developer) various subtexts and social messaging. So far, we've encountered a super genius brown lesbian mechanic whose expertise is abused by an evil White man running a local corporation exploiting townsfolk. We met a vicar of a new age stand-in religion for Catholicism that seeks to justify the corporate system. The first major moral dilemma we were presented heavily alluded to the idea that a bunch of squatters in a botanical garden located near the local town's power plant had more rights to the town's power supply than the town itself. The character creation menu has overt mockeries of lowly professions such as janitor and farmer, which appear to have been written by some posh leftist who secretly looks down on everyone who doesn't have a strong sense of being a rebellious atomized individual. The game, so far, attempts to criticize corporatism, potentially a noble cause, but in the end, it pushes a great many of the same agendas corporatism pushes today in 2021. It promotes LGBTQ, feminism, atomized individualism as it attacks both religion and any sense of collective responsibility to the group.
