I realized there are far too few videos out there going in depth on what is thought to be one of the hardest boss fights in Castlevania history. In reality, there are tricks to it that will have you dominating Dracula in no time! Here I give commentary on where to stand, weapons to use and where you want to begin Phase 2, then how to avoid the "demon form" attacks and finish him off from a safe distance. Down for the Count!

Part 15 of this series, stage by stage, on Normal for now. The very beginning is the most puzzling part, but just shoot at the plugs to advance. The Sick Sisters close us out of the standard game. It's a heavier version of the Mother fights, complete with Hosts coming at you the whole time. Frag when they get close and "finish" any who are highlighted to keep your health up, and either dash through the heavy beam OR hide behind an intact Host Pile for cover if you haven't destroyed them all! Pick up the Xaar to deal heavy damage to the Sisters, and Frag away when close to her. Easily could have (and should have) gone for S+ on this one, but was going for a trophy here.

I wanted to test this guy out as much as possible. Even so... I got lucky. Still arguably the hardest boss to pull off perfect due to the "random" nature of some of his attacks. But one of the keys to reducing the number of times these attacks occur is to put on the pressure! If you can get some swings in before any of those attack animations start up, you can back him up to the wall, and possibly even land a shot while he's hanging out there, as well, until he does a roll attack back to the ground/towards you. Keep pressuring him while he's hanging out on the ground and hope for the best, as you at least have a shot at dodging any of his rolling attacks from the walls or ceiling. If you're fortunate enough to prevent his cheaper ground attacks, victory is assured.

Reupload from a few years ago. Original description:
MAY TO THE JUNE, BABY!!! Contra III down for the count without any deaths! All down in about 24:14 (play time, not "skip to this time" time). This game was TOUGH. Almost not enjoyable in that you really have to memorize and micromanage virtually everything at all times from start to finish in order to pull this off. There are even some elements of variation that can occur in this game, particularly the final final final boss, who sometimes decides not to play nice and comes up with his flailing arms immediately. Fortunately, I got a good variation here. Nerves and impatience prevented me from sticking to my usual game plan I had during other practice runs, but I executed through all of it flawlessly, with a final score of 471125. I originally planned on recording the intro first, but I got so frustrated having to wait over a minute for it to roll every time I came up short that I decided to just let it run at the end. The footage is a little shaky here, so I'm guessing the Sabrent is on its last legs. I plan on getting an Elgato next month, so bear with me in the meantime.
Played on authentic SNES hardware. No save states, pausing, turbos, tool assists or cheats of any kind were used.

A method I've devised to escape the final area unscathed for the arcade version of LIFE FORCE. I use sound cues to know when and where to move in order to avoid the obstacles without any fancy flying. No speed upgrades were picked up at all in this run, which actually makes the movement a lot less hectic. Fly all the way up to the very top of the screen and hang out directly under the 4th digit from the left in the middle (HI) set of digits. Listen for the sound made by the protruding barrier obstacles. When you hear the THIRD one, immediately move to the left and hang out directly under the gap between your 1P score and the HI score digits. You'll be fine there until the next set of obstacles start up. From there, listen for the SEVENTH one to come out, and as soon as you hear it, move back under the 4th digit in the middle set again. Placement must be between the 3rd and 5th digit, but as close to the 4th as you can get should be okay. With practice, you should escape every single time without much crazy execution!
Played on PS4's Konami Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection. Save states used to isolate the section, but no editing was done within those states. Nine straight successful attempts ensued.

May to the June baby! I realize I have a run of this on here recorded "old school" style via camera pointed at a monitor, but I really wanted to get a higher quality capture. This one has an even higher score than that run, but I know I can get all kinds of crazy scores and times with effort. For now, here you go.
Played on MAME via GameStation using default settings. No pausing, turbos, tool assists, save states or any other cheats were used.

Part 10 of this series, stage by stage, on Normal for now. TrafficKing starts out with a rather unintimidating chase sequence (just avoid being near explosive barrels for too long and you'll be fine) followed by an equally unintimidating boss fight - but you'll need to know how to damage him. Stay either inside or outside of the four exhaust vent tower things, shoot each until they start steaming up, then get inside of the "square" area between all four of them before doing the same with the fourth. All the while, King is firing at you, but that's what your dash is for. If you have Overload, put skill points into both it and Frag, fire Overload up and bomb King to hell until he gets back up. Rinse, repeat. Finish him off and prepare for the third and final set of stages.

Nadai is such a pain in the ass, even on NG+. I need to work on better avoidance of his ground attack in later difficulties, but I think I have some ideas next time around. But still, down he goes!
The mob fight goes from 0:00 to about 6:06, with the Nadai fight at about 7:35.

Pretty easy once you figure out how the space and placement works, but when it rains, it pours, so be careful. If you keep Ghost Shaft on the LEFT as he summons zombie bosses, it will be the Behemoth every time, which you can backflip (face RIGHT) over to avoid. You can usually hit him 2-3 times between every summon, but you'll want to delay any shot that could send him over to the right until AFTER he starts a summon. You can hit him during this action without him going anywhere. The Cross or Axe subweapon works fine, but I prefer the Axe in case he starts floating upwards. Avoid staying too close to the edges of the screen, since the Ghost Bats tend to nail you and keep you trapped there. If you stay closer to center-right, you can usually just walk over as they dive in time to set up your backflip. If things get hectic, a well place Axe should take care of any lingering bats, or an item crash if need be. Shaft has his tickets to Hell... his bags are packed... send him home.

All those Contra games I've done on my channel, and yet none of them were the arcade version! Had to fix that. Very, very short game when it's all said and done, although there's a lot to learn and isolate. The Laser is your best friend this time around as opposed to the ol' trusty Spread Gun, although I might experiment with that as well in the future to see what kind of devastation I can unleash with it. But the Laser is the very first and very early power-up you can snag right at the beginning of the game, and when used properly, can really devastate the enemy. The Lair is definitely the trickiest stage of the game, and you have to play it very differently from the NES version! Still, not too tough overall compared to later and more refined run 'n guns out there.
Played via PS4's Contra Anniversary Collection. No pausing, turbos, tool assists, save states or any other cheats were used.
