Very first test flight of the ALZRC Devil 505 after getting the ESC programmed with the HobbyWing LCD Program Box. A close look at the box, going over the 505 ESC settings on the box and PC. Then it's go time. Solid as a rock, blade tracking spot on, found out tail gain can be set quite high. Test flight starts at 9:52

Great news! The Pros Kit SS-331 desoldering station does indeed have a universal voltage power supply; meaning it will work from 100V to 250V AC despite what is claimed on the unit, the box, and the marketing.
I show how I came to this realization and a couple easy mods I've done to my own Pro's Kit SS-331 station to make it more usable on my workbench.

Review of the Fluke 101 for beginners or anyone who is looking for their first proper digital multimeter or for those looking for a compact quality DMM for the jobsite.
The Fluke 101 is very small and will easily fit in your hand & shirt pocket, yet it offers all of the robustness, safety, and quality we have come to expect in a Fluke multimeter with a CAT III rating no less. Don' t let its small size & low price tag fool you! These are impressive little digital multimeters that you can take anywhere.
The Fluke 101 DMM is Fluke's entry level, lowest cost digital multimeter that offers the most used measurements including AC & DC voltage, Ohms, Continuity, Diode, Capacitance, Frequency & Duty Cycle.
The Fluke 101 however doesn't have Current measurement. If you are needing current measuring capability as well, you may want to look at the Fluke 106 or Fluke 107. None of these entry level Fluke 100 series have true RMS, but are still great little digital multimeters for beginners, hobbyists, RCers, DIYers, home owners, builders, tinkerers, basic automotive & shop use.
If you're tired of wasting your time & money on over priced big box store DMM's that don't last, give inaccurate & inconsistent readings and are unsafe; yet you have always wanted a Fluke quality meter, but didn't want to spend too much... Take a look at the Fluke 101.

Ah yes, the good old days and 1980's RC helicopters. Remember what it was like, or wondering what it was like? If so, here's a 1986 promotional video by GMP showcasing their lineup of helicopters.
I recall this video playing on a looping VHS tape at our local hobby shop next to the GMP heli display. While I was only flying RC airplanes at the time and certainly couldn't afford an RC helicopter in my mid teens; I was always captivated watching that video, and the seed was panted! I finally acquired my first RC helicopter as a young adult in 1989 - a Miniature Aircraft X-Cell 40 and have loved this hobby ever since.
Such great memories from a very fun and enjoyable time in RC aviation. Pure flying with no BS to distract. FM & PCM radios. The smell of nitro hanging in air. An equal mix of frustration & fun. Just mastering the nose-in-hover for many of us was a cause for celebration.
This was thankfully long before easy to fly drones started polluting the skies; pigeonholing and forcing nonsensical restrictions & regulations on traditional RC aviation worldwide - taking so much fun out of the hobby while we lose flying fields and permissions. So, while we can't go back in time, we can at least appreciate the many fond memories from this much simpler time in RC aviation.

Here's my OpenTX CCPM helicopter setup template which I use on all my RC helicopters that require internal radio cyclic collective pitch mixing.
This includes all electronically mixed (eCCPM) flybared helicopters and flybarless helicopters that use flybarless systems that don't have internal eCCPM mixing such as the Align 3G & 3GX systems.
This internal CCPM template is built entirely on the original external CCPM template from the Part 1 OpenTX for RC helicopters video, so you must first have that template built in your OpenTX radio before doing these internal CCPM setup modifications.

After using the little TS100 soldering iron on many projects over the past couple weeks, I have come to the same realization many others have... I don't want to use an old school ceramic core iron ever again!
This got me wondering; how do these cartridge soldering tips with the integrating heating element and temperature sensor work considering there are only two contacts? After all, traditional old school pro irons use 4 wires/contacts (2 for the heating element & 2 for the temp sensor).
Here's a little demonstration along with my hypothesis.

If you're looking for a top quality battery pack for your Radiomaster TX16S with decent life (run time), the Gens Ace 4000 2S TX pack is a great fit and good value for around $25 USD.
Let's look at the size of this TX16S battery option, install it and calibrate the battery voltage on the TX16S. Lastly, we'll calculate the safe running time for this TX16S battery pack.
To calibrate the TX16S battery voltage and calculate the run time, you'll need a digital multi-meter (DMM). However, from the video, I'll show the operating current of a typical TX16S with full screen brightness and volume level, so you could use that value for any other TX16S LiPo battery pack you might want to get a battery life estimate on.
You could also perform a rough voltage calibration by subtracting about 0.03V from the battery pack's open circuit voltage if you can't test your battery while it's running in your radio.

Part 2 of the R2-D2 build series - painting R2-D2 (specifically the dome). I'll show what colors I've chosen & the full painting process of the dome, panels & greebles.
Rub N Buff will also be covered since it's a popular method to give your 3D printed or fiberglass R2 dome a convincing looking metal finish. It even feels cool to the touch like metal afterward.
The same painting processes will be used on the body and legs of R2, so this video is the only one I'll be covering painting in detail. I'll therefore be referencing back to this video during the painting stages of the body and leg sections of this R2 build.
Take your time when painting R2-D2. As you'll see in the results, I rushed the priming process and while the end results were still acceptable, they could have been better - don't make the same mistake I did.
