We've experienced the story that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has to offer at this point, but what if the events of that part of the memorable franchise was different than you remember? What if things were a bit different, with somethings happening from what we know and thus can have even the smallest of effects on the main plot as a whole.
Mission III: After Big Boss rescues Kaz, he then heads off to begin bringing his plans to fruition while Diamond Dogs begins moving forward with their own operations. Before leaving however, Big Boss trained two soldiers to be under the direct command of both Phoenix and Venom Snake while he is away. A man and a woman, both exceptional in terms of combat potential that he had encountered after waking up in the Cyprus hospital. Light Bradshaw, codenamed Xanthos, in his trial by fire, is deployed Afghanistan to rescue a particular engineer that tried to defect to Diamond Dogs, only to be found out by the Soviets and held up in Wakh Sind Barracks.
Notes: Light "Xanthos" Bradshaw is one of the pivotal roles in this particular story. Born to a United States soldier and a former Soviet espionage operative who defected to the states in order to get away from the horrors of communism, Light grew up learning about how his mother went through hell in order to serve Stalin and how his father fought in Vietnam in order to help fight against the regime his mother escaped from. Driven by the patriotic devotion of both his parents, Light signed up for the military in 1982, quickly impressing his superiors as his skills in the CQC lessons that were passed down to the military when Big Boss, Phoenix and The Boss were still in the military service were of an astounding talent.
In early February 1984, he was deployed along with a small battalion of U.N troops from other countries part of N.A.T.O into Afghanistan where he met Shade, whom would later become his lover. During a mysterious ambush that was eerily similar to how Kaz's group was attacked, he and Shade fought for their lives as their allies were cut down by mysterious forces that turned out to be the Skulls, which they would learn later on. Although they managed to drive back the Skulls, both of them were heavily wounded and brought Cyprus Military Hospital, where Big Boss, Venom Snake and Phoenix were also stationed at.
A chance encounter with Big Boss earned him and Shade not only the chance of a lifetime, but ironically a chance to save their lives. Big Boss saw their potential and told them that they could be better, that they could change the world to be what it truly was meant to be. He even revealed his identity to them, only making sure that they were the only ones that knew. After considering his offer, they accepted, which also saved their lives as they were transferred out of Cyprus just a day before the XOF launched their attack.
Heading to the Seychelles, Light and Shade both got into contact with Big Boss again before he headed to Afghanistan to save Kaz, where he taught them both everything he knew in regards to CQC, even giving them their codenames. With a new resolve and a new purpose, the two lovers whom had a brush up with the XOF's Skull Unit has a chance to take their own revenge for their fallen comrades.

Mission VI: After Phoenix captures the Spestnaz Commander, the C.I.A has come to Diamond Dogs with a particular job. Entrusting a special type of missile launcher to the Mujahadeen, the group with the weapon all were but wiped out, save for one survivor. Having been behind the scenes for too long, Venom Snake decides to take up the mission personally in order to get back into the field.

Mission IV: After Xanthos rescues the Bionics Specialist, Shade Vetlana, codenamed Kallista, is sent to Afghanistan in her own trial by fire with a mission to send the Soviet forces into disarray by sabotaging the Eastern Soviet Communication Outpost.
Notes: Shade "Kallista" Vetlana is another pivotal role in this story. Born to a British Intelligence operative and a refuge from Eastern Germany, she spent most of her early life hearing horrible stories that her father went through living in the Soviet controlled part of Germany, including losing his best friend to get over the wall that blocked the west and the east. Wanting to make sure nobody goes through what her father did ever again, she joined the British S.A.S and became one of the first women members of the group in 1983.
A year later in early February, she was part of the U.N taskforce that was to join up with other N.A.T.O forces in Afghanistan, the same unit that Light was a part of. Ambushed by a mysterious force that they would later learn to be the Skulls, she and Light fought desperately to survive while their friends and allies were beings slaughtered, somehow making it through together despite the incredible odds. Both of them were heavily wounded, thus resulted in their transfer to the Cyprus Military Hospital where Big Boss, Venom Snake and Phoenix were.
A chance encounter with Big Boss earned her and Light not only the chance of a lifetime, but ironically a chance to save their lives. Big Boss saw their potential and told them that they could be better, that they could change the world to be what it truly was meant to be. Mission XII: After capturing Quiet, Phoenix returns with DD to Afghanistan and heads to Serac Power Plant in order to find out if Huey legit wants to meet with him and any other Diamond Dogs personnel, only to discover that not only was Huey working with Skull Face on a new Metal Gear, but it seems that things aren't gonna go according to what was originally promised. Seeing that things were different than expected, Phoenix decides to return to base while leaving another to apprehend Huey in his place.

Mission XI: After Xanthos and Kallista rescue Malak from the Soviets, the Diamond Dogs get into contact with a former "member" of MSF that vanished nine years prior. Huey Emmerich, creator of Metal Gear Zeke. Suspecting that he had some sort of involvement in the attack on MSF's Mother Base nine years ago, Phoenix heads over to Afghanistan to see if the meeting is legit alongside the newly fully grown and trained DD. However, Phoenix is about to have an encounter with someone he thought had died when Big Boss burned her back at Cyprus.
Notes: In this version of The Phantom Pain, Phoenix back in Chronicles I wasn't the original target of Quiet, Big Boss was. He was just in the way because she didn't realize whom he was until after she was recovering after being given the parasite therapy. The bandages covered just enough of his face as so his identity wasn't completely exposed.
Phoenix felt some regret that she had to be the one to find him and Big Boss, not someone else. Even though she was trying to kill him, he harbored no ill feelings towards her, hence why he does what he does here, neutralizing her with "bonks" from supply boxes instead of shooting her with his weapons. Also, later on things will end up good for the both of them, compared to the original.

Mission VIII: After Phoenix captures the three Soviet commanders, Xanthos is deployed to aide the Mujahedin in attacking the communist forces in order to weaken their war effort in Afghanistan. Needless to say, Light was eager to take on this opportunity due to his immense hatred of the communists as a whole.
