Ecojustice is representing seven young people in a constitutional court case against the Ontario government, ostensibly to try and force the government to reinstitute cancelled cap-and-trade legislation. CBC has given this a 'lite' reporting effort - seeming to have no questions about how these young people came together or whether there might be any conflicts of interest or foreign-funding or foreign interests as part of the case. Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager for Friends of Science Society, walks through some important and relevant background details that are not very hard to find on the internet, and wonders why CBC with its greater than $1 billion tax-subsidized annual budget couldn't do more 'reporting' and less 'repeating.' If you want to find you why you are paying a carbon tax and getting 'climate income' rebates, watch this video. The video and power point will be posted to our blog a bit later, so that you can review the links in the power point. Thanks for watching! Since 2013, the Pembina Institute and CAPE and a couple of other charities have claimed that coal-fired power plants cause serious health impacts and costs to Albertans. However, numerous long-term peer-reviewed papers from diverse parties with no association to each other show that this is not the case. The coal phase-out campaign has cost Albertans billions of dollars and has put our affordable, reliable power grid at risk. Coal-fired power is about 2 cents/kWhr 'at the gate' (before administration/distribution etc costs) in Alberta. In Ontario, solar is pegged at 47.3 cents/kWhr and wind at 12.5 cents/kWhr by Ontario's Professional Engineers in May 2015. The Alberta government wants to replace coal-fired power primarily with wind and solar. Wind and solar are intermittent, unreliable power sources that required 100% back-up by conventional power, which means two power sources must be paid while one is on standby for when wind/solar drop off - meaning no reduction in costs. The Alberta government is also planning to pay for 'capacity' instead of power production. Alberta presently has 1440 MW of wind power 'capacity' on the grid, but wind provides only 7% of Alberta's power. Should we pay for 'capacity' that does not generate actual power that can be used? Albertans have been misled on the coal-health impacts and this is costing taxpayers billions of dollars. What should be done?

Canada's CBC-TV loves to tell people that climate change is seen 'in your backyard.' This is absurd, since climate change is measured over 30, 50, 100 and millennial time scales But what happens when a family of tiny Panda's goes for a walk and they DO find 'climate change' in their back yard?? Enjoy this light-hearted and optimistic look at climate change with your children or grandchildren. Life is beautiful. Children should be busy having fun, not being turned into angry school-skipping activists, trying to 'save the planet' from the magnificent modern world built by their parents' years of hard work. education, and earned wisdom. The Sun drives climate change, directly and indirectly, interacting in a dynamic, chaotic manner with the internal variabilities of Earth's natural systems, and greater forces in the universe (like cosmic rays, orbital patterns of planets, and more!). Ecojustice, a federally registered charity, has recently launched a legal challenge against the Alberta Inquiry into foreign-funded activity against the energy and resource sector, often referred to as the “Tar Sands Campaign.” According to a 2012 document from the CRA to Friends of Science Society, charities are not allowed to engage in political activity to change laws, but Ecojustice has been doing that since its inception. Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager for Friends of Science Society discusses correspondence with the CRA which indicates that ‘climate change’ is not a local, measurable or tangible cause, according to the CRA directive; nor do Ecojustice donors – some 19,000 individuals plus some family foundations funding Ecojustice are supposed to provide a ‘net benefit’ to Canada through this ‘charity’. But what is the ‘net benefit’ when they put over100,000 people out of work and crater the Albertan and Canadian economies with global reputational damage and billions of dollars in investment fleeing the country and province? So, the question must be asked about Ecojustice – “How is this charitable activity?”
The Tar Sands Campaign is well documented as a coordinated, foreign-funded effort to demarket the Alberta Oil Sands. Some references include: Corporate Ethics bragging about coordinating 100 groups against the oil sands: “Michael 'Marx' advised the International Tar Sands Oil Campaign, which included over 100 groups working in the U.S., Europe and Canada.” https://corpethics.org/about/ An overview with links to campaign documents: https://www.counterpunch.org/2013/10/16/how-tides-canada-controls-the-secret-north-american-tar-sands-coalition/ A document showing how Keystone XL was intentionally blocked by a coordinated campaign of ENGOs and certain First Nations groups: http://internationalfunders.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/IFIPConferenceReport2010.pdf.

While out at night under the Worm Moon of March, Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager for Friends of Science Society, explains that the virtue signaling normally associated with sending cheques and etransfers to big Environmental Charities to 'save a polar bear' and 'stop climate change' will now move to a new level with RBC Ventures' "Goodside" personal carbon tracking app. "Goodside" implies that if you aren't using the app, then you must NOT be virtuous, you must be on the 'badside.' The Goodside webpage offers free ebooks that will fill your head with catastrophic climate dogma...that's all false or wildly exaggerated. Our President, Ron Davison, P. Eng., wrote a 30 page rebuttal that is a bit technical, but the upshot is clear. There's no climate emergency and riding your bike to work won't stop climate change. Neither will having a salad for lunch, instead of a steak. Ron's rebuttal will be posted on our blog, link below. Likewise, "Goodside" calculates your carbon footprint and offers you a chance to assuage the 'sins of living' by buying carbon offsets if you are having too much fun. Imagine. You'll be buying hot air from a BANK. You'll be paying for the "lack of delivery of an invisible substance to no one." (Mark Schapiro, Harpers Magazine, Feb 2010) Let's be honest. China emits in one month, what Canada emits in about a year and a half, so all the "Goodside" tips are simply leading you down the garden path. It's a path that leads to you being stuck in a Smart City, where all your data is known, a path that will end up with you having a government imposed personal carbon RATION, on your digital ID. You might be able to buy a latte with your Central Bank Digital Currency in that Brave New World, but only if it is made with cricket milk. Friends of Science Society invites you to enjoy our FREE online events. We are proud to present Friends of Science Society's 18th Annual Climate Science Event entitled "Politicians Can't Stop Climate Change". This two-part, free, on-line event will feature Dr. Guus Berkhout, President of CLINTEL and Marc Morano, author and climate advocate for common sense policies. Dr. Berkhout is the co-fouonder of CLINTEL, the worldwide group of more than 900 scientists who say there is no climate emergency. Dr. Berkhout's presentation on Oct. 2, 2021 at 10 AM MDT, will focus on climate science and is entitled "Let the Data Speak". All too often, climate conversations are drowning in agenda-driven rhetoric about a crisis; when we examine the data, the crisis disappears. Marc Morano's presentation on Oct. 6, 2021 at 7 PM MDT will be on "Green New Deal: The Great Regret" and he will explore the possibility that climate lockdowns will be copying COVID lockdowns. These events will be hosted by Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager for Friends of Science Society and there will be a live Q&A following the presentations. The recorded events will be posted to our YouTube channel for later viewing if these times don't suit you. Please join us! Links to the live-streams will be posted to our Event page: https://friendsofscience.org/index.php?id=2588

Dr. John D. Harper, FGSA,FGAC, PGeol., former director of the Geological Survey of Canada, walks us through 600 million years of climate change in just a few minutes. Dr. Harper demonstrates that there have been cyclical periods of extreme cold (glaciation) moving to temperate times, then tropical heat, and then periods of extreme heat (evaporitization) when salt beds were formed. He shows us how the history of climate change is 'written in the rocks' and that changes in carbon dioxide levels have no apparent correlation to warming or cooling periods. Thus, he concludes that carbon dioxide is a consequence of warming, not a cause, as carbon dioxide levels typically rise following warming periods (due to release of CO2 from the earth and oceans - the CO2 is sequestered again naturally during cooling periods). These cycles are not within the control of humankind - but Dr. Harper points out there are many things that ARE within our control - proper waste management, reduction of toxic emissions, alleviation of poverty, improvement of sanitation - and that's where we should be putting our money, not on scientifically meaningless carbon dioxide reduction.

Award-winning Dutch filmmaker Marijn Poels returned from 9 years of work in poverty and conflict countries, only to be alarmed at the energy policies affecting food security and farmers in Europe. He started asking questions and followed the path to climate policies. After sending numerous, repeated requests of climate science experts, wanting to hear their views, only Hans von Storch and Freeman Dyson invited him to talk. Marijn found out that these science experts don't think there is a climate crisis, despite what Al Gore says. Climate change is just one of many issues to be addressed. He was also surprised to learn that making policy based on climate models is more like science fiction than science.
