SSSS.Gridman has more meta references in it than probably any show I've ever watched. Many of them are ridiculously subtle such as the one discussed in this video where the character designs of the main cast seem to be paying homage to the Transformers characters in Shattered Glass, an alternate universe comic series where the Autobots are the bad guys and the Decepticons are the good guys, and the students of "Neon Genesis Junior High", itself an obvious reference to Neon Genesis Evangelion, seem to be paying homage to the Age of Extinction Dinobots.
