The Government is threatening the future of the NHS. They want to remove safety measures that stop junior doctors from working excessive hours.
Health secretary claims 43% of medics have turned up for work as NHS employers urge ministers to impose new contracts
Jeremy Hunt, the health secretary, has claimed that turnout for the junior doctors’ strike is lower than for last month’s industrial action, with 43% turning up for work, as Downing Street indicated that the government was ready to impose a new contract.
Hunt said pay rates on Saturdays were the one outstanding issue in the dispute that has triggered two strikes. He denied that the government had rejected a “cost-neutral” offer from the British Medical Association that would have resulted in doctors’ basic pay rising by about half the 11% offered – in return for Saturday not being treated as a normal working day.
“There has been no rejection of any proposals and plans that would deal with this weekend effect that is of such concern to patients and the public,” he told BBC News. He went on to describe the industrial action as “very damaging”, but said the turnout was slightly lower than before.
NHS England confirmed that the 43% figure included doctors who had never intended to strike, such as those working in emergency care. It said 43% of junior doctors – out of a possible 26,000 working on a typical day – had reported for duty on the day shift.

We interviewed the Watford MP Richard Harrington who says the redevelopment of Watford Junction and Met Station are on his bucket list.
'Let's Make it Happen and Redevelop Watford Junction Station!'
In 2015, one of Richard Harrington’s 5 campaign pledges was to work towards the full redevelopment and redesign of Watford Junction Station, which as station users know is overcrowded and not fit for purpose.
Watford is a significant transport hub and we need the infrastructure to match that. Journeys from the station have increased by over 1.5million in recent years and with the Met Line soon to link up to the Junction, use will only increase.
A recent survey carried out by Watford’s MP showed that commuters want better drop off and pick up, better car and bicycle parking provision, more food and retail outlets and another access point to the station. Richard also believes the bus forecourt should be redesigned again.

OMICRON imposes reduced staff and opening working hours.
The worryingly high number of empty shops on Watford's high street
Sadly, the pandemic has hit businesses and traders hard with some forced to close , with some closing as the new OMICRON imposes the start of restrictions.
There are also several other units inside Atria lying empty.
Down in Lower High Street, women's clothing store The End has shut permanently and The Money Shop has also closed. Jimmy's World Kitchen signage is still up but the restaurant has closed.

A new Watford FC mural adorning the subway leading to Vicarage Road Stadium, which reflects the history, the passion and the pride felt by fans of the Hornets throughout its history, was officially unveiled last week (Thursday 27 January) by club legends and co-funders Hertfordshire County Council and Watford Borough Council.
The amazing portraits start with Cliff Holton – who scored a record 48 goals in the 1959/60 promotion season – and take in the Graham Taylor and Elton John years, which saw Watford rise from the fourth tier to the first, thanks to key players such as Luther Blissett and Tony Coton.
