Trying Out a New Approach : Kyle Paints 2023
I tried a new approach for my last art show.
Normally, I'll trace out 2 paintings at a time, then paint them as a pair.
When they are done I'll evaluate what I have, then use what I've learned on the next pair of paintings.
There are two problems I often have with this approach:
The main one is I don't enjoy the tracing process so I always try to put it off so it can ruin my flow while I'm working.
The second problem I run into is the first painting in a show will look like it belongs in my last show, and the last painting I do looks like it belongs in my next show, and I want to have a sense of consistency in a body of work.
This time around, I traced all 15 paintings up front. I did a bunch of sketches and rough work and samples ahead of time, then tarted tackling all the paintings all at once.

The Framework DIY edition laptop I ordered is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
According to the instructions on their website, it should take me about 10-20 minutes to put this laptop together.
I made this 20 minute timer out of their logo, so I run it in the background and see how well I do against their estimate.
Am I a complete n00b, or an elite tech wizard?
We will find out...

2 seconds between shots.
I'm trying to get used to the field of view provided by a 105mm lens.
I tried to shoot the big dipper. I could only get half of it in the frame at a time.
Most of my astro time lapses have been ultra-wide angle, I was surprised by how many more stars appear with a telephoto lens.
Does anyone else notice a high number of hot pixels occurring on their Z6, or is it just me? I did a double sensor cleaning right before starting this sequence to remap the sensor, and you can see new hot pixels creeping in just seconds into this video.

How do you follow the rule of thirds?
Easy!
Instead of pointing the camera straight at something, putting the horizon dead-center, pick which half of the image you like more, and make that part take up 2/3, rather than 1/2 of the composition.
Done!
That's all you have to do to follow the rule of thirds.

This time, I went all '1980's video art' and pointed a camera at a monitor connected to that same camera, creating a feedback loop.
I launched a drum machine app to create some background sounds. The monitor, an ASUS PB278Q, has built in speakers, so lots of fun feedback going on.
