Allison Gollust saga: WarnerMedia won’t say what ousted CNN boss Jeff Zucker did to violate news standards
WarnerMedia and parent company AT&T have stayed silent on what now former CNN boss Jeff Zucker did to violate the network’s News Standards and Practices after it was revealed 'journalism integrity' was breached by the ousted executive. Zucker was showered with praise from CNN’s biggest stars when he was shown the door earlier this month for what was initially chalked up as a consensual relationship with fellow CNN executive Allison Gollust that was never disclosed to the company. CNN staffers and outside observers alike never bought that explanation. as their relationship was said to be an 'open secret' throughout the media industry. But on Tuesday night. WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar announced Gollust would also leave the company after a third party probe into CNN’s handling of the 'issues' associated with Chris Cuomo and his big brother. former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. D.. found that everyone involved violated company policies related directly to news. ALLISON GOLLUST RESIGNS FROM CNN FOLLOWING JEFF ZUCKER OUSTER 'The investigation found violations of Company policies. including CNN's News Standards and Practices. by Jeff Zucker. Allison Gollust. and Chris Cuomo.' Kilar wrote. indicating Zucker’s nondisclosed sexual relationship was not the reason he was forced to step down. The letter also indicated that more than 40 people were interviewed and over 100.000 texts and emails were combed through. The revelation came on the heels of an explosive Rolling Stone report that Zucker and Gollust fed 'talking points' to the former governor on how to respond to former President Trump’s criticism of the New York COVID crisis. WarnerMedia declined comment when asked a series of questions including. how did Zucker violate CNN's News Standards and Practices and whether texts and emails reviewed indicate that he advised Andrew Cuomo when he was governor of New York. CNN executive vice president of standards and practices Calvin Sims did not immediately respond to a request for comment. WarnerMedia parent AT&T did not respond to a request for comment. CNN SCANDAL: JEFF ZUCKER. ALLISON GOLLUST GAVE GOV. CUOMO COVID ‘TALKING POINTS’ TO COMBAT TRUMP. REPORT SAYS Kilar previously faced the wrath of Zucker loyalists when he held a series of town hall style meetings with CNN staffers. who were bewildered their beloved boss was forced to exit. National security adviser Jake Sullivan on Sunday said that he cannot know for sure what will happen in Ukraine. but described how a potential Russian invasion would play out if it were to happen. 'If there is a military invasion of Ukraine by Russia. it's likely to begin with a significant barrage of missiles and bomb attacks.' Sullivan said. 'Those are never as precise as any army would like them to be. and we don't even know how precise the Russian army would like them to be. so innocent civilians could be killed regardless of their nationality.' Biden officials dispatched to Saudi Arabia to discuss energy concerns amid Russia Ukraine crisis
(CNN)The White House dispatched two officials to Saudi Arabia this week to press the kingdom to pump more oil as fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine cause energy prices to rise. a potentiality President Joe Biden warned about in a speech on Tuesday could get worse if Russia attacks. National Security Council Middle East coordinator Brett McGurk and the State Department's energy envoy. Amos Hochstein. were in Riyadh on Wednesday. a senior US official confirmed to CNN. attempting to shore up the relationship more broadly but also to discuss with Saudi officials how to stabilize markets amid soaring gas prices and fears of a Russian invasion. The Saudis have been resistant to any changes in production because of their commitments to OPEC+. a consortium of oil producing countries that includes Russia. the official said. The officials' trip to Saudi Arabia follows a phone call between Biden and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud last week. in which they discussed 'ensuring the stability of global energy supplies.' according to a White House readout of the call. Biden. in a speech on Tuesday. said that a Russian invasion of Ukraine was unlikely to be 'painless' for Americans. 'There could be impact on our energy prices.' he said. 'So. we are taking active steps to alleviate the pressure on our own energy markets to offset raising prices.' US officials have continued to claim that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could happen at any moment. though Biden said on Tuesday that he still sees a window for diplomacy. Given the high risk of a Russian attack. the Biden administration has been making contingency plans for months to shore up Europe's energy supplies should a Russian invasion of Ukraine create gas shortages and roil the global economy. CNN has previously reported. 'We're coordinating with major energy consumers and producers.' Biden said on Tuesday. 'We're prepared to deploy all the tools and authority at our disposal to provide relief at the gas pump. And I will work with Congress on additional measures to help protect consumers and address the impact of prices at the pump.' War between Russia and Ukraine could significantly affect global energy markets. Russia is the second biggest oil producer in the world. behind only the United States. Russia also currently provides Europe with more than 40% of its natural gas supply. according to Eurostat. the European Union's statistical office. A large amount of that supply goes through Ukraine. and those exports would likely be severely disrupted by a war and damage to critical energy infrastructure. US officials have therefore been in regular discussions with a number of countries and companies in Europe.
