I'm beginning at the main station and working my way towards the lovely city center, which has many ancient buildings including Ludwig van Beethoven's home. Bonn is located in the Rhine-Ruhr region, Germany's biggest metropolitan area, which has a population of about 11 million people. It is renowned for being the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven, who was born there in 1770. He grew up and went to high school in Bonn. Bonn was Germany's previous capital city. In 1991, one year after German reunification, Germany chose to relocate its parliament from Bonn to Berlin. This stroll is a wonderful opportunity to take in the beauty of the city and the pleasant weather in the early afternoon. It’s known for its role in maritime trade, represented by Hanseatic buildings on the Market Square. The ornate and Gothic town hall has a Renaissance facade and large model ships in its upper hall. Nearby is the Roland statue, a giant stone figure symbolising freedom of trade. St. Peter’s Cathedral features medieval crypts and twin spires. The Schnoor neighbourhood in the medieval centre of Bremen. The medieval character is preserved with tiny streets and old houses. In the Ruhr valley, the district is defined by loose residential development mixed with commerce and industry, as well as places for local leisure. Werden, along with Kettwig and Mülheim a der Ruhr, was historically on the Bergisch Land's northern boundary. Werden traces its roots back to St. Ludgerus, who established the Benedictine abbey of Werden towards the end of the eighth century (around 799). Since then, a community has grown up around the monastery. Werden acquired its town charter, as well as its own walls and gates, in 1317. I'll begin my walk at Werden's railway station, then stroll towards the city center, showing you different sites. It connects the Old City with the eastern part of the Neuenheim district of the city on the opposite bank.
