A little something from the London based EPL academy. And again, like a lot of videos I post here there is a little more to it than meets the eye.
Two mannequins are positioned 12 yards from the endline and a few yards wider than the width of the goal. There is a cone placed about 3 yards beyond each mannequin. This is the starting point for the attacker. There are also 3 cones positioned laterally away from each mannequin. The attacker dribbles at the mannequin and attempts to score.
Notice that the dribbler does not go beyond the mannequins or the three cones. The dribblers are working on using the mannequin (defender) as a screen. Sometimes NOT beating the defender can work to your advantage.
Experienced attackers know that sometimes using his defender as a screen can be an effective tool as it gives the goalkeeper less time to deal with the shot. The idea is to shoot as close to the defender as possible without getting tackled. Lionel Messi is a master at this.

Here is a third passing/finishing exercise from United’s academy. The focus here, aside from technical proficiency, is very much on switching the point of attack in an attempt to create gaps in the opponent’s defense and create scoring opportunities. Notice there are two switches of play to create the shooting opportunity.
The players should strive to do the exercise one-touch.
What you don’t see in this clip are, actually, the first two passes. The exercise starts with the wide left player passing to the striker/target-player who, in turn, passes to left-central-midfielder.
-Wide-left player begins by passing to the striker
-Striker passes the way he’s facing to the left-central-midfielder
-Left-central-midfield opens up and passes square to right-central-midfield
-Right-central-midfielder opens up to the right and passes to the wide-right player
-Wide-right-player passes one touch back to right-central-midfielder
-Right-central-midfielder passes one touch to the striker
-Striker lays ball off for left-central-midfielder who has moved forward to shoot
-Left-central-midfielder attempts to finish, one-touch if possible
There is no rotation in this exercise. Players remain in their primary positions.
This would also work as a great standalone passing exercise if no goal is available. Central-left-midfielder, instead of finishing, would open up to the left and pass to wide-left player and the exercise would continue.

Some fantastic, clean, technical work done here at one of the world’s best youth academies.
The goal keeper moves forward, from the goal line, over four obstacles and makes a save. He then moves rapidly to the left over 3 obstacles and makes a save. Not shown here: the goalkeeper would then move rapidly to the right over the 3 obstacles and make a save. He would then move again to the middle and make a final save.
This is a great exercise and what I like most about it is, first, the quickness of his feet. It is the goalkeepers feet that gets him where he needs to be to make most saves.
Second, it is the absolute confidence of his handling of the ball: clean and secure. Outstanding, world-
class training.

The players are split into groups of three or four with the groups positioned equidistant from a single, centrally positioned cone.
The players perform dynamic push-ups for a set period of time. At the trainers signal all the players race to the cone.
To make it more fun, make it a competition! Which ever player touches the cone first, that team is out and can rest. The rest of the teams go again until the slowest team is left!
This can easily be done as an individual training exercise. Just one player and a cone. Either do a set number of dynamic push ups or set a phone/watch for a set period of time…then race to the cone as fast as you can.
