Livestream in Norwegian: Norges tidlegaste vikinghistorie på Ringerike
In English: This livestream is in Norwegian only, since it is about a Viking trip to Ringerike in Norway in September, for anyone who understands Scandinavian language! The talk feautures many of the same slides as in my last livestream, so all non-Scandinavian speakers can check that video instead: https://youtu.be/oucU4nl6vOI
Would you like to help out in the construction of a Viking ship using Viking Age building techniques? I recently met with Viking ship builder Ragnar on Ringerike, who is leading the build of the Viking ship 'Hardraade' in Norway, named after the fierce and famous Viking King Harald Hardråde. This is a really cool project which I intend to follow as it progresses. Great people are involved in both the build and on the investor side, and they are welcoming more people to join. Feel free to contact Ragnar at: ragnar@hardraade.no. And recording in light drizzle and cold weather is not easy, so please forgive the camera work and edit:)

So the news broke today of the discovery of a 60 metre longhouse at Gjellestad in Østfold south of Oslo which continues the very exciting story of the excavations that are currently going on. This area must have been really important, not only in the Viking Age, but for centuries prior going well back into the Bronze Age and possibly beyond. As you might see from one of the older maps, the ancient farm Thorshov (Þórshof) is closeby, indicating that this also was a place of great worship.

In this video I explain the recent news story in Norway in which a professor and myself tell our story of how two professors tried to pressure him to cancel me. Here's a link to the news story, which can be translated to English: https://khrono.no/dna-forsker-mener-han-er-utsatt-for-svertekampanje/632640.
Though Cancel Culture isn't good at all and even though I personally despise people who call around like this, I ask that we all refrain from harrasing her and rather use that old virtue called temperance when dealing with this. This too shall also pass..
Thanks for your support anyway!

Did you know that the roots of the Viking Ships can be found in ancient times of both the Bronze and so-called Stone Ages? Especially when it comes to the long keel, the clinker build and the bows which gave them the ability to sail with the waves instead of through them. In older times it was the forked bow which "broke the waves" and we can see in the evolution of the ships throughout the Bronze and Iron Ages that this feature was very important and was copied in the bows of the later Viking Ships. Hope you'll like this video!

Norway's biggest sea battle in Nesjar in the year 1016 was a pivotal event in the life of King Olav the Holy and is a chapter of the sword-christening of Norway. It's even recorded by Icelandic skald and court poet Sigvatr Þórðarson in the poem Nesjavísur (link below). Olaf fought with 2000 seasoned Viking veterans against a 3000 strong army led by Earl Svein, Einar Tambarskjelve and the powerful Einar Skjalgsson, involving about 65 ships in total.
The play to this event will premier here outside of Helgeroa on August 6th:
