Nutrition is one of the most overlooked trait when it comes to athletic performance. Learning your daily calories is just the start. What is really going to take your nutrition to the next level and really make a dramatic change in performance, is when you start putting your macros together. The interesting thing about it, is that they both go together. In order to find your macros you have to know your daily calories.
I go into detail talking about how to calculate your macros, finding how many grams of carbs, fats, and protein you will need on a daily basis. I explain that everybody's numbers are going to vary, depending on your goals, and your tolerance. So paying attention to how your body responds to certain things is going to be important. That way you can adjust as needed

For today I wanted to talk about how athletes should train for performance, and if you should push to failure when training? This is something that is a misconception, most of us grow up being taught that if you aren't pushing yourself until you can't go anymore then you aren't going hard enough.
I explain in detail why this is not the best thing to do when training for performance (for the most part). Their are a couple of factors that go into it, it depends what level of training you are at, where you are at in your season, and what your goals are. All of this is going to let us know if you should train to failure or not. I talk about the effects of muscle fibers (fast twitch, slow twitch) with certain types of training.

Ankle sprain is one of the most common injuries in basketball. I wanted to give you guys some of my best tips to help prevent an ankle injury. I also give you some of my favorite stability exercises that will strengthen the ankle joint, which is going to cause a lot more support in that area.
I also talk about some in game tips for lowing the risk for ankle sprains. Things that helped me avoid these injuries when I played, I had these injuries every now and then but not as bad as most athletes. I couple psychological things to think about as you are playing the game as well!

For this video I talk about dunking a basketball. Learning how to dunk in basketball can seem self explanatory, but their are things you can do to practice dunking or to help be able to dunk a basketball.
I give 4 different tips for dunking, so if you put all these together they will help you dunk a basketball, or be a better dunker. I mention that dunking is not just about being able to jump high. Dunking is a skill and it takes practice even if you are able to jump high enough to dunk. Another tips is to figure out if you are a 2 foot jumper or a 1 foot jumper. Knowing this is going to help your feet placement when attempting to dunk. Obviously you have to be able to jump high enough to dunk, so working on things that increase your vertical jump is one of the most important things to work on. Their are 3 main things you need work on in order to jump higher for basketball, (strength, plyometric exercises, and flexibility). For the last tip I give is a little out of the ordinary, but practicing on a shorter goal is going to help with your dunking skill. I don't fully recommend this one because it can create bad habits, but it can help. I stress in the video to not abuse this one, and to be super careful. Never use a chair or anything on a 10 foot goal!

In this video I show you a workout that will help you gain muscle without using weights or equipment. Although equipment is great for strength training, this can be a go to workout if you are ever in a place that has no equipment, but still need to get a workout in. I show lots of different push up variations, and the modified and advanced version of each of them.

In this video I talk about how to measure vertical jump without equipment, and talk about some of the best ways to measure your vertical jump as well, to give you an idea of what will help it be the most accurate.
In order to increase your vertical jump, you need a starting point. I always like to start with testing your vertical jump. The best and most accurate way to measure your vertical is by using a vertec. I explain in the video how this isn't going to be for everybody, because it is a big investment and it also takes up quite a bit of space. So I talk in depth about some other options, like using apps to measure your vertical jump. VertVision and Jumpster are the apps that I tried, and tested out numerous times to see if it would be a good recommendation for you guys. My thoughts on these apps is they just did not work for me, I thought the accuracy wasn't there at all so would not recommend.
I also show you how you can measure your vertical without using any special equipment, it can be just from things most of us have lying around the house.
