After taking the quiz for a radio expansion on the PokéGear at the Radio Tower, go to the gym of Goldenrod City and you’ll take on Whitney after navigating a maze. Whitney uses Normal type Pokémon. Clefairy will use Metronome to use a random move and Mimic to learn the target’s most recently used move. Miltank will be the hard part as it will use Rollout to repeat for 5 turns with the move growing in power every turn. If Miltank is low on HP, it will use Milk Drink to regenerate. After the battle, Whitney will become devastated, and you’ll walk away empty handed for the time being. After a Lass speaks to you, go back to talk to Whitney and she will give you the Plain Badge along with a TM45 (Attract). Attract will infatuate the opposite gender, making it less likely to move.

On Route 8, there is a trio of bikers which call themselves the Kanto Pokémon Federation. One team of Koffing will use Sludge for a 30% chance of poisoning the target and Explosion that does massive damage but makes the user faint. Flareon will use Fire Spin to prevent the target from escaping for 2-5 turns.

Mossdeep City’s gym has tiles that move you around until you hit a clean tile to stop. Use the switches to adjust the direction of the arrows and you’ll battle a few trainers. Keep adjusting the arrows and you’ll battle 2 gym leaders. Tate and Liza use Psychic type Pokémon. Lunatone will use Light Screen to weaken special attack damage for 5 turns then put its opponents to sleep with Hypnosis. Solrock will use Sunny Day to make its Flamethrower stronger and SolarBeam not require charging up on a first turn. After the battle, you’ll receive the Mind Badge and a TM04 (Calm Mind). Calm Mind raises the user’s Special Attack and Special Defense stats.

The next boss is Cractus. In super-hard mode, the timer is set at 2 minutes. Break the vase first and use the ladders to hang on until the boss comes in so you can bonk its head. If you get caught in its dribbling fluids, you’ll turn into a zombie. If you purchase a Black Dragon from the shop, you’ll inflict great damage before doing your first attack.

Bruno now has a full team of Fighting type Pokémon. Hitmontop will use Counter to return any physical attack for double the damage and Quick Attack to strike first. Hitmonlee will use Swagger to confuse the target and Reversal to deal more damage the lower its HP is. Hitmonchan will use Drain Punch to restore its HP by half the damage the target took and Mach Punch to strike first. Hariyama will use Payback to deal double damage if it strikes after the target and Bullet Punch to strike first. Machamp will use Dynamicpunch to confuse the target and Stone Edge to more easily land a critical hit. Lucario will use Iron Tail for a 30% chance of lowering the target’s Defense stat and Extremespeed to strike first. Moves like Aerial Ace and Psychic work best for this battle.

Make your way through Area 9 of the White Treehollow and you’ll face off against Iria, another Veteran Trainer. Salamence will use Zen Headbutt to make targets flinch and Outrage for big damage with the move repeating for 2-3 turns. Moltres will use Roost when low on HP. With the Power Herb it has, SolarBeam and Sky Attack won’t need any charging the first turn as the item can only take effect once. Raikou holds an Air Balloon that allows it to avoid Ground type moves and when it pops, Raikou can always use Magnet Rise to give it 5 more turns to avoid Ground moves. After the battle, you’ll unlock Area 10.

A Koopa will enter the yellow shell then home at you. Press the P Switch to turn the hard blocks into coins. Let the shell follow you and knock out the other Koopas in the room. Finish the process by spin jumping on the homing shell for an extra life. Enter the pipe then hit the big red switch to turn all the blank red blocks into hardened blocks.

After defeating Team Rocket at the Radio Tower, go to Blackthorn City and enter the gym. This gym has boulders that can be pushed from the 2F and down into the pools of lava. Once the boulders are all down, you can cross to battle the gym leader. Clair uses Dragon type Pokémon. Dragonair will use Thunder Wave to paralyze opponents. One knows Surf, the 2nd one knows Thunderbolt, and the 3rd one knows Ice Beam. Kingdra will be the hard part as it will use Smokescreen to lower the target’s Accuracy. Since Kingdra is Water/Dragon type, only Dragon type moves have an advantage against it. After the battle, Clair won’t offer anything yet. She will tell you about the Dragon’s Den that you will enter next to find the Dragon Fang. Enter the Dragon’s Den and once you find the Dragon Fang, Clair will step in to give you the Rising Badge and a TM24 (Dragonbreath). Dragonbreath has a 30% chance of paralyzing the target.
