Regarding Lou Reed and Metallica's collaboration Lulu - the artists have said this album was inspired by Frank Wedekind's "Lulu" plays. There also seems to be a link to the American silent film actress Louise "Lulu" Brooks who acted in a German film based on Wedekind's plays - Pandora's Box. There are reasons why Louise Brooks fits into the bigger picture of sexual trauma and exploitation in art and music. Looking more deeply into the art for this album, I see that this antique manniquin was actually photoshopped together with images of a living woman to create a sort of half-human half-manniquin figure, something which illustrates the idea of a person who has been altered ("enhanced") with non-human parts. The name Louise Brooks may also be significant since Chris' mother is named Louise and my daughter is named Brook, and both of them have been harmed and manipulated by this same system and the associated technology. Kansas-born Louise Brooks was molested as a child and sexually harassed as a young actress when powerful men in the movie industry demanded sex from her in exchange for roles. With regards to the song Brandenburg Tor, I have also thought more about Lou Reed's personal association with the song ("I'm just a small town girl...) and wondered if he too felt he had been sexually manipulated or influenced through this frequency-based technology.
