Completing an Ironman race is one of the most grueling tasks on the planet. Swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles, and running a marathon (26.2 miles) in one race, requires a clear mind and high-performing body.
To "show up" on race day, one must put in consistent daily work on the bike, the road, and in the pool. Andy attributes his success in Ironman competitions to the same daily habits and rituals he applied to his professional baseball career.

Natural remedies for sleep - How to beat Insomnia -
Tips and tricks
I have suffered on and off for years with this horrible problem that can really drain your life energy so I wanted to share some things that will help you beat this.
The first tip is to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day to develop a routine. Use natured cues like darkness and light to signal your body to prepare to relax
2. Don't do anything in bed except sleep, have sex or maybe read. But definite don't use your bedroom to study, take phone calls or work on your computer or watch tv.
3. Don't eat or drink too much late at night as this gets your digestive system going and stops you having restful sleep. Too much water right before bed can make you have to wake up frequently to urinate.
One exception to this would be a small glass of milk that has calcium to help relax your body or a few almonds which can also help you relax. A couple of hours before bed perhaps a cup of fennel or camomile tea also helps you relax
4. Take a warm bath before bed or get your partner to give you a massage. (Good luck with that) . Use Epsom salts to help detoxify your body.
5. Pay guided sleep meditations or listen to soothing music or natures sounds like the sea lapping against the shore. It helps calm the left brain and stop you thinking too much.
6. Get more exercise during the day to exhaust your body into a relaxed and peaceful state. Office workers have more trouble sleeping than manual labour. However don't do stimulating exercise just before bed as this can be too stimulating.
Doing some yoga or Pilates just before is ok as it relaxes the body
7. Deep breathing exercises. Deep breathing helps you tap into your parasympathetic nervous system which is your rest and digest system and helps you shut down and relax
8. Visualise s happy peaceful place. Whether it's a tropical island or swimming with whales something that makes you feel happy, safe and relaxed.
9. Avoid caffeine drinks and alcohol. Caffeine can stay in your system for hours and can be the cause of you waking off through the night. Alcohol can help you fall asleep but it's not restful sleep and can make you awake often as well.
10. Avoid naps ( I hate this as I love little nana naps but it's true if you nap during the day it can make you less able to sleep at night). Once again it's about routine that's important.
Don't use naps to catch up on sleep also don't use sleepins to catch up on sleep as once again it breaks the routine.
11. Get up earlier also helps you got to sleep better at night.
12. Imagine it's time to get up.
Picture that beautiful time when you wake in the morning so relaxed and warm and you just don't want to get up but have to. Imagine you have to get up and it's cold

5km, 10km Fun Run & Walk & Half Marathon 2014
Mokau beach is one of the wildest and most untouched beaches in the North Island and the best thing is it goes for miles and miles!
There's a feeling of freedom, wild surf, ocean breeze, tranquillity and of course the picturesque views of the beautiful coastline and the backdrop of Mt Taranaki in the distance.
Mokau which is situated just one hour drive north of New Plymouth, is a sleepy seaside village that houses many an old iconic "kiwi bach" and that is the mentality here, it's all about the sun, sea, fish, surf, farms, mountains and rivers. Pure New Zealand...
All events will take place on the beach and there will be the added excitement of a river crossing (for the half marathon runners) which will add an extra element to the adventure, but don't worry after a short paddle you will be back into your stride in no time at all...
If you are keen for a great day out, sign up or the 5km or 10km or give the half marathon a go. Something for all the family. You can run, walk or crawl; we don't mind as long as you're up for an adventure! Walkers and runners welcome for 5k and 10k but runners only for half marathon due to tides.

ABOUT DR KAL
Dr Kal Fried is a proud member and Medical Director of Pain Revolution. Before being recruited, he was involved in the group's first Rural Outreach Tour in 2017. Dr Kal is an independent medico-legal examiner who has consulted with the Transport Accident Commission and WorkSafe as a medical advisor. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Australian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians in 1995. Ever since then, he's helped sporting teams at all levels and across disciplines.
From his experience, Dr Kal observed how the context of pain consistently predicted clinical outcomes. He often shares his findings and observations on pain science and chronic pain treatment on his website. He is also part of the Rehabilitation Medicine Group focused on creating re-adaptive programs for people in pain.

Exercise Scientist Neil Wagstaff and Pro Ultra Endurance Athlete Lisa Tamati, co-founders of Running Hot Coaching, the holistic online run training system, take you through a sample warm up routine before your run.
Warming up is something often neglected by time strapped runners wanting to just collect more kilometres but you do so at your peril.
A good warm up, opens up and activates the key muscle groups, gets the heart rate up before you shock it with the stress of running, helps you transition from work or sleep to training.
Prepares you mentally and physically.
A good warm up also decreases the perception of difficulty in the first part of a run.
The first 20 minutes are notoriously hard when running but by doing a good warm up you avoid this and the perception of effort is decreased.
So go easy on yourself and include a good warm up and of course cool down routine with EVERY run.

In January 2016 Lisa's mum Isobel Tamati suffered a massive aneurysm at the age of 74 that left her fighting for her life.
She survived after weeks in ICU and in and out of coma but the brain damage was massive and she was left with hardly any higher function. She had virtually no speech, was unable to sit, stand, walk or even move her limbs in any coordinated way, unable to control any body functions, unable to even push a button, chew her food or focus on anything.
Doctors told us we had to put her in a hospital level care facility and to prepare for the fact she wouldn't live long or ever have any quality of life ever again.
Her story is a testament to what love and a never quit mentality can do.
It's about never ever giving up and always pushing your limits despite the huge odds stacked against you.
It's about the fact that age is no reason to give up. It's also a list of the therapies I used and the principles I adopted to get her to where she is today, against the doctors prognosis.
We proved that sometimes you can beat the odds.
