How to extract Cinnamaldehyde from Cinnamon (Steam Distillation)
In this video I will be extracting cinnamaldehyde from cinnamon bark by steam distillation. The yield was about 0.5g cinnamaldehyde from 25.5g of cinnamon bark. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDoaPIKT_Xg
WARNING: Tasting chemicals that you make is almost always a bad idea. Even though I've taken several steps to make it as safe as possible, I'm still doing it at my own risk.

For this video, I'll be using the urea that I got in my last video, to make Dulcin.

Dulcin was the second artificial sweetener to be discovered, but it's now banned due to health issues. My goal for this video is to make it using only easily sourced materials, and then to taste it at the end.

Today we are going to be making chlorobutanol. It was historically used as a hypnotic sedative and it is currently used as an antibacterial/preservative. I think it has a pleasant minty/camphor like smell to it.

Hey guys, in this epic segment, we are making some benzoic acid from sodium benzoate. This is a good example of regenerating an acid from its salt form.

Today I will be making and testing an insecticide called DDT, which has been internationally banned for agricultural and consumer use. It was agreed that it should only be used for controlling diseases like malaria. Some countries do still use it for agriculture though, against better judgement.

Warning: this experiment is dangerous and possibly explosive. Proper care must be taken.
Magnesium silicide reacts with HCl to produce silane gas. Silane gas is pyrophoric, which means that it spontaneously combusts in contact with air at temperatures below 54C. The silane gas erupts into flames when it contacts air and makes small popping noises.

(This video is not charged to Patreons. Also, it's the first one that I have done where I didn't narrate)
In a previous video, I took apart some Zinc-Carbon batteries and I was left with a lot of battery shells.
They were just lying around, so I decided to melt them into an ingot.

WARNING: This is very specific for getting acid on hands. Skin elsewhere on the body is much thinner, and will be damaged much much faster.
Note: I will eventually re-do this video. I missed a lot of important information!
Hello everyone. First of all, I apologize for the poor video angle in this.
PLEASE DO NOT REPEAT THIS.
In this video, I will be pouring three common acids on my skin. I'll pour hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulfuric acid. This is only true for room temperature acids. Hot acids are a different story. The 300C sulfuric acid in my distillation video will instantly char your skin.

In this video we make some ammonium formate from ammonium carbonate and formic acid. It was supposed to be used to convert vanillin to vanillin amine, but there was a problem with the synthesis and it doesn't seem to work. The vanillin amine is a precursor to things like capsaicin and other spicy compounds.
I still thought the video might be interesting though, so I am posting it anyway. Let me know if you have any other cool ways to use ammonium formate
