The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is now investigating an officer-involved shooting which led to injuries for two Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) officers and the death of a suspect who was wanted for attempted murder.
A tipster who wishes to remain anonymous called law enforcement for assistance at 2:38 p.m. this afternoon (August 29, 2020) saying that she knew the whereabouts of 44-year-old Michael A. Harris.
DBPD officers and members of the Holly Hill Police Department (HHPD) were then dispatched to 1629 Espanola Avenue, Unit 104 in Holly Hill to bring Harris into custody.
DBPD’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) had an active arrest warrant for Harris in relation to the shooting of a woman on August 18, 2020 at the Travelers Inn in Daytona Beach (850 South Ridgewood Avenue).
A perimeter was established around the apartment, at which point officers approached the apartment on foot and then entered to try and arrest Harris.
Body camera video from officers on scene show Harris attempted to evade the officers by running into a bedroom. As officers tried to enter the bedroom, Harris fired through the open door with a handgun. Law enforcement then exchanged fire repeatedly with Harris, wounding him. He died at the scene.
Speaking to reporters afterward, DBPD Chief Craig Capri says Harris’ decision to use a gun forced the officers to use their weapons in self-defense.
One round struck the ballistic vest of a full-time patrol officer. The vest stopped the bullet from penetrating, leaving him with a bruise in the right chest area. He is expected to recover after he went to Halifax Health Medical Center (HHMC) for treatment.
Another full-time DBPD officer on scene tripped and fell outside of the apartment while shots were being fired. Paramedics took him to HHMC, where he is being treated for injuries to his head and neck. He remains in stable condition and should recover from his injuries.
Those officers are now on paid administrative leave while FDLE investigates, which is standard in officer-involved shootings. Their identities are not available for release currently since the FDLE investigation is active and ongoing.

Philadelphia officials have released the body camera footage and a 911 call of the fatal Officer involved shooting of Walter Wallace Jr. 27-year-old
"We truly believe that this is an important step in our commitment to transparency," Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said during a Wednesday news conference (that is include in this video) before the release of the video.
After the 911 calls are played, the body camera footage follow, showing Philadelphia Police Department 18th District officers Thomas Munz and Sean Matarazzo responding to the calls. They stand at the bottom steps outside the home, calling to someone inside. Then Wallace, 27, who held a knife, start to walk towards the officers Munz and Matarazzo who backs up going around parked cars telling Wallace to drop the knife. At a certain point Wallace appear to charge the officers, at least he speed up, you will see for yourself in the video and than walk normally still holding the knife in hand, and this when the officer involved shooting occurred.
Other officers then arrive to the scene, grab the knife and call for help.
Wallace was then transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he later died.
Family members said he was in a mental health crisis at the time.
(Thomas Munz, 26, joined the force in 2017; Matarazzo, 25, joined in 2018. Their names were not public until Wednesday.)
Officials said this is an undergoing investigation.

The City of Denton Police Department released body cam and a press conference concerning the fatal shooting by the Denton police officer of Darius Tarver 23-year-old college student at around 3 a.m. on Jan 2.
It all began with police received multiple 911 calls from residents saying a man was acting erratically, banging on doors and shattering light fixtures in a hallway with a frying pan.
When police officers met Tarver down the stairs of his apartment building, The Forum at Denton Station, he charged at them holding the meat cleaver and a frying pan, this is when a officer involved shooting occurred and killed him.
Before Thursday, Tarver’s father Kevin had been the only person outside of the department known to have seen portions of the incident on video. He said what he saw did not match up with the police narrative of the incident.
Police Chief Frank Dixon said he did not want to release the video, but did so to avoid civil unrest after weeks of public protests demanding more transparency from the department about what happened to Darius Tarver.

Female Deputy Shot Shoplifter's Mother Accidentally.
Greenville, South Carolina ---
On October 20th, deputies with the
Greenville County Sheriff's Office (SC)
responded to 522 Cliff View Court
in regards to a follow-up investigation.
Following the first deputy’s arrival, an
officer involved shooting occurred.
Deputies were first called to Spinx at the intersection of Pelham and Batesville roads to collect a video tape which had evidence of a shoplifting that happened earlier that morning.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s deputy, who recognized the shoplifting suspect identified as Sean Theodore Kaiser, 40 in the video from a previous call that occurred earlier that morning, the call as regarding an intoxicated subject involved in a non-violent domestic situation with his mother, who had fled the house after the suspect attempted to take her purse to purchase more beer.
The suspect, 40-year-old Sean Theodore Kaiser, refused to go into custody and retreated back inside, where the deputy followed.
Kaiser said to the female deputy, "don't touch me" and "I'm stronger than you."
After several minutes of negotiating and attempting to put Kaiser in handcuffs, the footage shows, Kaiser grabbed the deputy's arm, shoved her and put his body on top of her until she broke free a moment later.
The deputy then backed up, drew her firearm and shouted at Kaiser's mother, who had moved in to intervene.
The mother stood with Kaiser and asked the deputy to wait for other deputies to arrive. The deputy shouted "no" several times with her handgun still drawn.
"Back away," she shouted at the mother five times. "Do not tell me what to do."
Kaiser then stood up and charged the deputy when the deputy fired one shot, striking Kaiser's mother, who was standing behind him.
The mother remained hospitalized a month and a half after the Oct. 20 incident, according to the suspect's attorney.
The deputy then fired another round that did not strike anyone, and then she and Kaiser tussled until they both fell on the floor.
The Sheriff's Office has declined to identify the deputy before the State Law Enforcement Division completes its investigation of the incident.
Online Greenville County court records list Ashley Cure as the arresting officer. Cure did not immediately respond to a Facebook message seeking comment.
On the scene after the shooting, while sitting on the floor near the deputy, Kaiser said, "Did you (expletive) hurt my mother? You don't hurt my mother."
Seconds later, another deputy came in the front door of the home, kicked Kaiser and placed him into custody.

The Mesquite Police Department released body camera, surveillance videos of an officer-involved shooting that occurred on December 14th, 2023, around 2:57 a.m.
A Mesquite police officer, conducting routine patrol in the vicinity of Cartright Road and Edwards Church Road, observed a silver Hyundai sedan being followed by a Chrysler sedan. Both vehicles turned onto Cartright Road just as the officer approached the intersection.
Continuing westbound on Cartright Road, the officer witnessed both vehicles entering the 7-Eleven parking lot near Faithon P Lucas Blvd.
Shortly thereafter, at approximately 2:59 a.m., a caller contacted Mesquite Police Department dispatch, reporting the theft of their silver Hyundai sedan from the area near Clay Mathis Drive and Edwards Church Road.
Surveillance footage retrieved afterward revealed a dark-colored Chrysler sedan dropping off a suspect, who approached the Hyundai with a flashlight. Subsequently, both vehicles departed the area together.
CCTV footage from the 7-Eleven depicted both the Hyundai and Chrysler parked at gas pumps. The driver of the stolen Hyundai interacted with the Chrysler's occupants multiple times.
Returning to the scene after receiving the stolen vehicle report, the officer observed both vehicles still parked at the gas station. Finding the stolen vehicle unoccupied, the officer approached the Chrysler to engage with its occupants.
As the front passenger and the suspect from the stolen Hyundai exited the store and walked toward the Chrysler, the officer commanded them to get on the ground. The front passenger fled on foot, followed by the stolen vehicle's suspect who complied.
While providing suspect descriptions to dispatch, the officer commanded the Chrysler's driver not to move. However, the driver reversed the vehicle, and despite repeated commands to stop and turn off the vehicle, proceeded to maneuver away from the pump. Eventually, the vehicle began moving forward, prompting the officer to fire three rounds, striking the driver.
Subsequently, the officer detained three occupants from the backseat of the Chrysler.
Life-saving measures were attempted on the driver, who was pronounced deceased by Mesquite Fire Department paramedics.
Firearms were discovered in various locations within the vehicle: a 45 caliber Llama handgun with two rounds in the front driver-side floorboard, a 7.62 Mini Draco with 23 rounds in the front passenger floorboard, a .40 caliber AR pistol with five rounds in the rear passenger-side floorboard, and a 45 caliber Springfield XDS with two rounds in the rear passenger side floorboard.
The driver of the Chrysler sedan was identified as Payton Lawrence, a 19-year-old male from Mesquite, with an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Of the three occupants detained from the Chrysler's backseat, two were questioned and released, while the third was arrested due to outstanding warrants.
Despite search efforts involving DPS 101 helicopter and Mesquite Police K9 units, the two fleeing suspects were not found.
The officer involved in the shooting is a 17-year veteran of the Mesquite Police Department and discharged three rounds from a Glock 9mm handgun.
The Mesquite Police Department will continue its investigation into the incident.

Shooting Investigation - 500 Block Fairgrounds Drive
FINAL UPDATE
On Sunday, November 10,2019 at approximately 5:25 PM, Vallejo Police Officers
responded to a report of a shooting in the 500 block of Fairgrounds Drive, in the
City of Vallejo.
Investigators from the Solano County District Attorney's Office and the Vallejo
Police Department are conducting a joint Solano County Officer-Involved Fatal
Incident Protocol investigation. The Solano County Coroner's Office has identified
the deceased subject as Eric “Cheddaman” Reason, 38-year-old Vallejo resident.
The preliminary investigation revealed Reason was driving away from the gas
pumps located in the shopping complex, when off-duty Richmond Police
Department Sergeant, Virgil Thomas, driving his personal vehicle, pulled into the
parking lot of the shopping complex. The two vehicles momentarily stopped
while facing one another and Sgt. Thomas honked his car horn to audibly warn
the other driver of his immediate presence.
Sgt. Thomas then pulled his personal vehicle into one of the parking stalls and
exited his vehicle. Reason then stopped his vehicle, perpendicular to the officer's
vehicle, rolled down the window, and began yelling at Sgt. Thomas.
Reason then exited his vehicle and walked within inches of Sgt. Thomas while
directing profanities at him. Reason then walked back to his vehicle, opened the
hood, and retrieved a rag containing a handgun. Reason armed himself with a
handgun and approached Sgt. Thomas a second time. Sgt. Thomas
subsequently drew his weapon and fired at Reason in response to an observed
threat.
Reason fled with the gun in his hand and at some point raised the gun. Sgt.
Thomas believed that Reason still posed an immediate threat to the safety of
Sgt. Thomas, his wife, who was a passenger in the vehicle, and other patrons of
the shopping complex. Sgt. Thomas subsequently fired his weapon at Reason.
Reason was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation will continue and the findings will be determined by the District
Attorney's

On Thursday, August 1, 2019, at approximately 5:17 p.m., Arlington police officers, the Arlington Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to a welfare check in which the caller reported that a woman was passed out in a grassy area near Cantor Drive and N. Collins Street.
The first officer arrived around 5:20 p.m. along with EMS and fire department personnel, and they were unable to locate the female. The caller contacted the officer and was able to direct emergency personnel to the location where this woman was last seen. As the officer began to approach what appeared to be a woman lying in the grass, he noticed there was also an unrestrained dog. This location was near a fence line containing a heavily wooded area behind a commercial business that includes a sidewalk area. As the officer called out to the woman, Maggie Brooks 30 years old repeatedly concerning her welfare, the dog began to run towards the officer while barking. The officer retreated backwards from the running dog while drawing his duty firearm. The officer discharged his firearm multiple times towards the dog. After the shots were fired, the woman yelled out and it was apparent she was injured shot to the torso.
The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Preliminary information leads investigators to believe the woman was struck by gunfire from the officer. The officer is assigned to the North District as a patrol officer.
"Larry Hamilton, a 64-year-old who often tries to find work outside this Arlington Walmart, said he knew the homeless woman killed Maggie Brooks 30 years old by an officer as well as her boyfriend. He said they had a small brown dog and “she was real loving to the dog.” The dog “was her soul,” he said."
The officer, whose name has not been released, is 25 and has been with the department seven years, police said. He started as a detention officer, graduated from the police academy in February and was cleared for field work July 21, police said.
The incident was captured by body-worn camera which will be included in the investigation. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin have been identified. This is an ongoing investigation to determine what happened. The department will release additional details and facts as they become more known.

The San Francisco Police Department released 911 calls, surveillance cameras footage and body camera footage of an officer involved shooting (OIS Case #190921223) that occurred on December 7, 2019, at approximately 8:34 AM, SFPD officers responded to a call at 23rd Street and Capp Street regarding a report of a hot prowl burglary. The officers made contact with a person matching the description of a suspect. The suspect assaulted the officers with a weapon. An officer-involved shooting occurred. Inverness is a city in Citrus County, Florida --- Dash cam video released Monday shows the moments a man tried to avoid getting caught with a stolen truck, shooting at authorities before crashing the truck Sunday morning in Citrus County.
The owner of the stolen truck told he felt helpless seeing his vehicle used for crimes. Lucas Williams discovered it was missing Sunday morning while he was at work at a fire station.
“My wife called me on her way to work saying ‘Hey, did one of your friends pick up your truck to work on it?' I said 'No,’” said Williams.
He reported it stolen. The truck ended up miles away at a house on Muzzle Loaders Court in Inverness. A neighbor saw a social media post about the stolen truck and called it in to authorities when she saw it in her neighbor’s yard.
When Citrus County deputies showed up, the deputies said the suspected thief, Travis Lovett, 22, took out a neighbor’s fence and tried to run deputies over to get away.
"Lovett deliberately drove the stolen vehicle towards one of the deputies, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck, before striking a fence and leaving," the sheriff's office said. "While trying to elude deputies, Lovett intentionally accelerated at another responding deputy, forcing the deputy off the roadway to avoid a collision."
Citrus deputies and Florida Highway Patrol chased him for two hours through Citrus, Hernando, and Sumter counties. FHP dash cam video captured the moment the suspect even fired shots at them, a bullet piercing a trooper’s windshield. Williams said he saw the footage on TV.
“I’m not behind the wheel, but I’m watching it do criminal acts where it’s putting people’s lives in jeopardy and my sole purpose in life is to help people. So it kind of makes your stomach turn,” said Williams.
Investigators said Lovett drove recklessly through Inverness and Floral City, driving into oncoming traffic and nearly striking pedestrians in order to lose the following deputies.
"When we have a suspect who is hell-bent on avoiding all contact with law enforcement, their behavior becomes unpredictable and erratic," said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Pendergrast. "This is especially true if they are dead set on not being caught, then they will risk their life, the lives of innocent citizens, and the lives of all our law enforcement deputies."
Troopers outmaneuvered the suspect, causing him to flip and crash.
Lovett was ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to Bayonet Point, then transferred to Tampa General Hospital. He is listed in serious but stable condition. He was most recently in jail for grand theft auto in January, according to FHP reports.

Kilgore Police Department - Texas Police Pursuit: On 04-15-2020, just after 8:00 am, Kilgore Dispatch received a 911 call from a caller reported they were following their truck that had been stolen earlier in Longview. Officers located the truck and trailer and initiated a high speed pursuit through Kilgore and Longview. The suspect later fled from the vehicle on foot and was arrested. 19-year-old Palestine man Caleb Wayne Rogers was being held Wednesday in Gregg County Jail on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.

on Saturday December 2018 Harrison County Sheriff’s Office reported Caleb Wayne Rogers, 17 at that time now 19 years old, of Longview, was arrested, after leading deputies on a wild chase through Harrison County.
Rogers was also previously arrested on May 5, 2018 on charges of burglary of vehicle and theft of a firearm. There is more details in the video.
