October 2, 2009 – David R. Henderson – The Scott Horton Show – Episode 991
David R. Henderson, author of The Concise Encyclopedia of Economics, discusses the anti-Afghanistan war demonstration he organized in Monterey, California, the effectiveness of hypothesizing a role reversal to demonstrate the hypocrisy of U.S. exceptionalism, winning over conservatives by showing the economic consequences of war and how punitive sanctions designed to instigate regime change inevitably fail.

Patrick Cockburn, an award-winning journalist with The Independent, discusses the treacherous road between Damascus and Tartous in Syria; why nobody really knows the composition of Syria’s many rebel groups, or how great their numbers; the Gulf monarchies backing radical Sunni groups throughout the region; and why the Syria-Iraq border no longer matters as suicide bombers roam freely on both sides.

Scott talks to Colleen Moore about America’s withdrawal from global nuclear arms agreements under the Trump administration. Part of the reason for Trump’s keenness on pulling out of these agreements is his reputation as a tough negotiator who prioritizes America’s interest and won’t tolerate “bad deals,” but he’s also received nonstop allegations from the left for four years that he’s a Russian puppet, which makes it very difficult to try to make peace with them. Luckily, nuclear arms reduction is an issue that 80% of Americans support, so Scott and Moore see a huge opportunity for politicians to make this a leading issue in the future.
Colleen Moore is the Digital Engagement Manager at Beyond the Bomb and Global Zero. Find her on Twitter @cmoo11_.
