0:00 RUST! Damn it.. CLR worked great! 2:00 Everything needs to be done at once and visitors. 2:30 Is it legal to take a certified aircraft and make it experimental? 6:34 My status and flying.. where am I in my hours? 10:18 You're not a builder, until you do this!! 13:54 Working on the floor summary of work 16:30 POP RIVETS! (fight me!) Okay just get a pneumatic pull rivet tool
I really don't know what the rules are regarding flipping a certified aircraft to an experimental aircraft.. I mean.. you "CAN" do it.. but what's the legality here?
Also regarding the Cherokee 140 I was talking about, apparently there is a pretty big AD dealing with the wingspar and corrosion so if you have one, make sure to check it!

Reassembly of all the pieces and then riveting the parts together. Plus, my wife helps for the first time!
Sections 10-16 to 10-20
I start off by finishing up the dimpling on the skins. Then dimple all the rest of the parts!
Once I get that all done I prime everything and then start the final assembly process.
Assembly goes together just like we had previously done and is easier actually due to the dimples.. things kinda line up nicely.
Then it's all about doing the rivets. Lots and lots of rivets... Seriously, so many rivets..
My wife helps me towards the end of the video as this rapidly becomes a two person job when you can't reach around and get to both sides. So expect to have a person handy..
Theoretical finish date based on calculations: September 27, 2019

All told I spent roughly 5 hours inventorying everything and organizing things in such a manner to make it easy to find them again when I needed it. Probably more time than I should have spent doing this, but it will likely pay off down the road. I'm not in a rush..

In this installment I go through and work on the fuel tank. Specifically machine countersinking and dimpling the holes! So many holes!
I also point out a couple minor errors in the plans that you need to be cognizant of as well as a couple pieces you can install backwards if you're not careful.
I talk about a few unfortunate omissions on a couple of the parts in the plans. But fear not you can totally figure it out. ( I mean I did.. )
It could also be a very clever plan by them to slowly ween us off extremely detailed plans and let us figure things out a tad on our own. I dunno.
Either way, just to be clear, I don't want to make it seem like I'm bashing Van's.. I'm not. I'm a huge fan of Van's. What they are doing is incredible. So my pointing this stuff out is more of a way that I can pass on my findings to you so that you don't have any struggles like I did.

In this video I go through and continue working on the fusing of the Fuselage and Empennage. A lot of drilling and working to get things read for the final mating, including.. pulling it apart! *sigh* I hate that I have to do that.
I also go over a new service bulletin for the RV-10 that just hit and my plans for attacking that.
Latest Service Bulletin from Van's on the RV-10: https://www.vansaircraft.com/service-information-and-revisions/sb-00002/
And then I get into some secret stuff... Mmmmm Secret stuff.. (sorta..) If you guys have any questions you want to hear us answer, ask down below!

I'm finally back on days and can work on the plane.. Plus it's not fricken freezing out side!
I talk to how the match drilling is going as well as giving some advice on the fuel gas cap and how to position it. The gas cap flange has a tiny tiny bit of a curve and you want to make sure you match it with the wing curve or you will have a funky shape imparted to the wing skin!
And give an update on my schedule as well as giving a list of people who have started their own plane through Van's!
I also talk a little again about building vs buying, here is a link to the previous conversation on that subject; https://youtu.be/2okFvv43cqU
I talk about the 3D printer I have and wow.. what a piece of crap!

I have always wanted to fly and have taken several steps towards doing just that in the past, but each time I would run out of money or something else in life would get in the way...
No more. This is an itch I need to scratch and I plan to follow through - I'm hoping these videos will help to keep me motivated!
Join me as I go on this incredible adventure..
The point behind these "learning to fly" videos is so that I have something to review after the action and allow me to go back over my mistakes, or triumphs. This really isn't meant as entertainment.
Comments and suggestions are 100% welcome at this point because I'm still new at this.

In today's lesson I get back in the pilots seat after a 3 month hiatus due to the plane being down for maintenance.
I just flew around and then did a landing. My first landing was terrible and the plane was ahead of me so I went around and learned a valuable lesson!

Here I show a better / newer way to do the fiberglass on the vertical stabilizer and basically end the work on the empennage. Done! Sorta.. Watch the video =)
I also provide a montage of the entire build process and then give an after action review where I ponder whats to come.

Continuing to work on the forward fuel tank.
I try to answer a common question about countersinking vs dimpling. And I talk about wing edge prep again. I'll talk to that while I'm doing the countersinking across the back baffle rivets on the skin.
I also talk to Sun N Fun vs Oshkosh.
UPDATE: I will NOT be going to Sun-N-Fun unfortunately. But I am 100% planning on going to Oshkosh.
I'm curious as to which is better? Are they the same, are they different? One better than the other? etc.. Love your feedback down below on that one..

Now in 1440p! (I was going to film in 4k.. but dear god.. those files are huge! Plus yall probably don't actually need to see me in 4k.. heh)
Continuing on from the previous video I go dig out the bushings needed in order to drill the holes through the steel landing struts. Only to find out they don't fit!
Time to implement some creative problem solving..
The new format is getting positive reviews but some of you have stated it's kinda boring so I'm going to do a mix of the two.. (which starts about half way through this video).
More raw "how to" with some of the older style speeding up..etc.. I want to keep it entertaining and informative so finding that happy middle is the trick.
Also note the Gopro Session timelapse seems very weird with regards to the autocontrast.. still working on fixing that.
And per your requests, I'm trying to release more videos.. This is rapidly becoming a job! hah
