.NET Standard 2.1 Released... Game Developers Rejoice!
The .NET Standard Library isn't the sexiest thing to cover, but this one is a bit different, as this has a feature that game developers have been screaming out for since C# 1.0... Span. Why is span so special ( or memory as well)... well, this finally gives you access to memory in a continuous block without requiring a copy. Got a big chunk of unmanaged memory from a C++ library? Have at it.. split it, cut it, without having to copy it. This opens up .NET to a world of performance optimizations.
Of course there are other features in .NET Standard 2.1, but this is the biggy. Oh, the video also starts by explaining what exactly .NET Standard is, as that can get a bit confusing these days.
In this video we look at how well Unreal Engine runs on M1 powered MacOS. We compare Unreal Engine 5.0 running through Rosetta to the newly released native 5.2 running on Apple silicon.
We also look into the recently announced Mac platform round map from Epic Games, showing what you can and cannot expect from UE 5.2 on Mac, including Lumen and Nanite support details.

Description:
In this video we look at a wide variety of game engines, from extremely popular to extremely obscure. The one thing they all have in common is 1) they are game engines 2) they are 3D or capable of 3D 3) they have a world builder of some form. If there is enough interest I can do a similar video for 2D game engines in the future, let me know in the comments if you'd be interested in that.

Just recently Unity announced some rather major pricing changes ( http://www.gamefromscratch.com/post/2016/05/31/Unity-Pricing-Changes.aspx ) including moving to a subscription model and a basically useless "Plus" tier. There was a ton of fallout over this change, many seeing it as a rather steep price gouge.
Today Unity announced changes to their changes ( http://www.gamefromscratch.com/post/2016/06/16/Unity-Makes-More-Pricing-Changes-Plus-Tier-No-Longer-Useless.aspx ). Frankly the Plus tier is no longer useless and existing customers aren't getting screwed.
What do you think of these changes? Good? Too little too late? Or never cared about Unity in the first place?

In this tutorial we are going to look at recreating the classic pixel art look using Blender. This tutorial covers modelling a very simple space ship, colouring it using vertex painting, rendering in cycles, given it the hand drawn look using FreeStyle, applying a toon shader the using the compositor to give it a pixelated look.
Dont worry if you didnt keep up, there is a handy text version available here:
