The joy about opinions is that everyone is allowed one. In Autism however, opinions only seem to matter if they are spoken by non-Autistic persons. Which is the equivalent of learning how to fly a helicopter from a person who is not a helicopter pilot in most cases.
There is a new term being overly and somewhat suspiciously oversold currently. A bit like how the music industry pushes anything from Ed Sheeran or Adele, even when it isn't very good. The new term is 'Profound' Autism. Apparently, it is a fantastic way to categorise persons who cannot advocate for themselves and will allow focus on people who, with all due respect, already have focus on them.
But it will in turn mean that people who sit outside of the 'Profound' category, will be forgotten or not considered as they should. As someone on the outside, this is extremely detrimental, as we are the Autistic people who are already forgotten, and this will only reinforce the narrative that we are 'alright', and that we can just carry on as usual, where the reality is, we are desperate for a bit of assistance and someone to listen to us before we break...or at least, that's how it is for me.
