Memories of Autumn - by John H Shelton - (Copyrighted, November 2021.)
I walk down a street
Pretending it was last September
The Autumn rolls in
With all that I remember
A face or two, that I used know
Gone into the darkness and Winter Snow
Here comes the cold
The rain and winter glow
Somebody take it easy
I can't go with the flow
For every time, I've wished
To get that memory back
I see ghosts of a long memory past
Halloween, summer or spring
Always bought delight
And full friendship bring
Into the light, nevermore
How can one mistake leave me on the floor
There are times, I regret
Smile and Laugh
It just means that getting older
Leaves memories of the past
And so,
The wind whispers
The leaves will fall
Never wanting to be alone
Hearing nature's call
The beating hearts
The long-gone voices
The memories of friends
Riding away on horses
Leaves me here
Wanting more
But on my own trail
Feeling through fall
Nevermore, the washed up remains
Of last summer
Wanting to gain
Wisdom and truth in seek
Beautiful words
From a high away peak
