I got this superb machine from an estate sale of a child care/learning center. At first glance it would look like a typical Califone record player (which there also was one there that I got), but lo, and behold, it was a reel-to-reel tape recorder! I was delighted at the sight, and it only cost $3. The machine works very well off original parts, a definitive showing that it was made to last.
Stamped on the inside door is:

Sony EVO-210 8mm VCR used to record this composite-videoed video.
Shure SM58 microphone for the voice
Sony lapel mike for the pencils
Shure M267 Series mixer with limiter
Sony Handycam DCR-TRV103 (just using the camera), and as pre-amp for lapel mike
CONTEC KRB-1541 portable TV/Video monitor
A number of pencils, from brands including PENTEL, BIC, PIERRE CARDIN, PAPER-MATE/SANFORD, VENUS, TOMBOW, and MORE...
Thanks goes to JORDAN (SpeakerFreak95) for the CONTEC video monitor, Shure mike and mixer, and mike stand, and The GOOGLE COFFEE CUP!!!

A classic tape recorder, basic but good. AC bias with clear sound. A classic for the '70s. Got it from an estate sale for I think about $12.

This is my rant and motivational speech on how YouTube wants personal information starting March 1st, 2012. I also rant some on the new account layout they're forcing us to and also on how the whole reason for their wanting of personal info is for the purpose of targeting us with ADVERTISEMENTS.

This is one fabulous portable "pocket" size cassette recorder from 1968. It is AC bias, DC erase. It has a nice all-metal case (aluminum) and is historical for a special reason...

This recorder's frequency response is 80 - 8000Hz, for any interested parties out there. Neat note: Although set for the standard 1 7/8 IPS speed, the speed control (the lower trimmer under the sticker on the front) can be adjusted so it can run at 15/16 IPS.
This model recorder is the same model used in the Apollo Space Program! .......and could this one here even be one of the very ones sent to space???????? Hmmmm.... Just watch the whole video, sorry it is 45 minutes long.
UPDATE 11-11-17:
For any interested parties out there. The part number printed on the original housing is SEB33100262-302.
TC-50's with that designation were flown on Apollo 14, 15, and 17. PDFs of the NASA files where I found that is here:

Another site here:
https://www.seb12100030.com/blogs/authentic-nasa-watchbands/92630727-the-significance-of-p-n-and-s-n-on-nasa-items
This site mentions how the part number is constructed. The 'S' in SEB means that it is a NASA unit. I am getting quite near convinced this recorder DID get use for Apollo!!
Serial number (S/N) of recorder: 29342

A very nice professional/semi-professional grade portable reel-to-reel tape recorder for use with reporters, interviewers, filmers, and so forth. This is not the pilot version for film synchronization, but that version was available.
This Norwegian-made unit boasts three speeds, 1 7/8IPS, 3 3/4 IPS, and 7 1/2 IPS and can take up to 7" reels. This runs on 10 (!) D cells for 15VDC (later regulated to 9V inside the unit). I may later run this machine on four 18650 Li-Ion cells.
This device also has manual level control with a limiter function. It is also a three-head device (techically four-head, with fourth head used as a tachometer head reading a magnetically-coulpled signal from the motor to go to a feedback loop to regulate motor speed.
Unfortunately, this unit has a high-frequency whine problem, where the speed control tone gets into the amp a little bit. It is not from the recording, but even when the tape is not moving. I thought it was leaky capacitors, but it seems more to be from some connection somewhere, but I cannot figure out how to mitigate the problem at this time.
The high frequency whine problem I found is only happening with this particular tape loaded in it. With other tapes, it does not have that problem. Very strange, I must say.
And the lid does come off easily after all, and it even says so in the manual!

I get out my cannon. My gun. My turret of destruction.
My weapon is aimed. My finger is by the Big Red Button. I have had it with this crap software. Total video length it should be: 46:22. Video length of the resultant file? 42:36. This is after FIVE ATTEMPTS to export the file, each export taking over an hour for the software to perform. Finally, EACH TIME, when it gets to just a few minutes remaining before completion, its status goes to "Failed". I CANNOT STAND IT. IT IS PISSING ME OFF. At least it is only four minutes lost at the end, so not all that bad, but still, it is FREAKING ANNOYING.
So this is a neat recorder, made in the USA, introduced in 1960, for the 1961 line of Telectro tape recorders. Almost all American made, except, the original electrolytic caps (at least some of them) were made in West Germany! The rest of the electronics (maybe exept the resistors) are American.
Writeout to ClydeSight, as he has this same model.
I had to replace the electrolytics. Amp uses only four transisistors. In playback, it uses all four. Two pre-amp transistors, then driving a push-pull pair. But in record mode, only three transistors are used. Two pre-amp transistors to drive audio to the tape head, and one of the push=pull pair transistors to run the Bias Oscillator. Yes, AC bias and four transistor---An odd combo.
No, I will not go back an fix those typos. Just be glad I didn't let EVERY typo through!
