Not to be put off by failure. I found the old pipe mount I used for the failed babington burner. Put the nozzle inside, heated the oil again and it lit. More importantly, it stayed lit.
It still needs some refining. The oil sprays some large droplets but this might be cured by running the oil through copper pipe near the hot end of the tube and having it further heat. I'm also going to experiment with tube length and diameter.
