"The future of the media will be about your reputation and your brand."
I am interviewed by Lauren Dexter, a postgraduate student studying International Journalism at Swansea University. We discuss the difference between citizen journalists and professional journalists. The rise of unregulated Facebook community groups and how they compare and compete with local newspapers. How to make hyperlocal and community journalism financially viable. The relationship between the media and government, and media trust issues during the Covid19 crisis.
Recorded on the 28th July 2020.
Dear Ms.Brees,
My name is Lauren Dexter and I am a postgraduate student at Swansea University studying International Journalism. I have recently came across your twitter account, and saw that you are an ex BBC ITV reporter who now teaches and encourages citizen journalism.
Currently, I am in the process of writing a project surrounding the topic of professional versus hyperlocal journalism, and as a result would like to ask you if you would be involved in an interview for this? I am attempting to investigate whether hyperlocal journalism/citizen journalism could one day overtake the need for journalism as a professional career, and whether hyperlocal journalism is seemingly contributing towards society as a result, or hindering it.
If you would be interested in this or have any questions, please do contact me!
I look forward to hearing from you.
