Geoff Lawton Visits a Geothermal Community Greenhouse in British Columbia
This greenhouse is one of the largest community greenhouses in North America. Located in a high altitude and very cold climate in British Columbia Canada, it uses geothermal and other solar technology to grow food year round in this otherwise harsh climate.

Gardening is fun, productive but it can also be humbling. Some of the most popular crops have challenges, big ones. Tomatoes have a host of diseases they can get and end up dying to the ground in many climates. Same with even super productive crops like cucumbers and many others.
Then there are things that seem to grow like weeds. Nothing other than severe drought can seem to stop them and many are plants and herbs we can use all the time. Some we can even plant with left overs from the Grocery store. Today I give you my top 6 and what I love about them.
They are....
1. Celery
2. Mints (pepper, spear, bee balm, all of them)
3. Swiss Chard (practically comes back from the dead at times)
4. Red Veined (Bloody) Sorrel
5. Basil
6. Sweet Potato
Don't be limited by my list and tell me what goes on yours! My list though is based on long seasons and either perennial in nature or self re-propagating plants that can end up serving you for years with almost zero effort and almost no disease pressure.

Today on The Duck Chronicles Episode Twenty Four - 8 Muscovies More we have new members of the flock. 7 new Mucovy ducks and 1 new Muscovy Drake.
We also have one of our ducklings with a limp, I talk about how that is more of an issue with ducks than with chickens but how it generally works itself out anyway.
I also show you were the adults are being encouraged to work next, some of the work ahead for me, some more hedge rows we have planned and a few other things.

A quick walk though of the install we are doing at the Nov. workshop. I also explain why this design is not perfectly on contour. In some cases form drives function but in this case on some level function is driving form.

Join me at 12:00 CST as for a discussion with TSPC community member Jason Adkins. Jason discovered TSPC in "the Jetta days", became a prepper and then a series of "more mundane disasters" knocked him down. He will tell us about that and how he rebuilt after them and is currently on track to reestablish a homestead with his two daughters.

After some of our recent videos featuring the geese several folks have asked about how to pick them up. As you can see there isn't much to it, you just have to keep their wings in so they don't hurt themselves.

The principles of Permaculture covered today are the 12 principles offered by Permaculture’s co-founder David Holmgren. There are far more than these 12, we are just going to cover these today as a way to expose our audience to what Permaculture is really all about.
I feel the discipline is largely misunderstood, either as simply organic farming on steroids or some hippy dippy lefty mud rolling eco leftist ideology. It is really neither, rather it is a design science used to create systems that work with nature to support all of humanities needs.
Join Us Today to Discuss…
Why permaculture really should not be described as permanent agriculture
Thinking about the difference between techniques and principles and why it is so important
David Holmgren’s 12 Permaculture Principles and my thoughts on Them
Observe and interact – (before, during and after)
Catch and store energy – (create batteries for more the electricity)
Obtain a yield – (systems should be producers, vs. consumers)
Apply self regulation and accept feedback – (give before you take)
Use and value renewable resources – (think in lifetime cost, beyond money)
Produce no waste – (pollution is a wasted resource)
Design from pattern to details – (design with the end in mind)
Integrate rather then segregate – (function stack and explore all connections)
Use small and slow solutions – (obtain the greatest effect with the least effort)
Use and value diversity – (nothing natural is a mono-culture)
Use edges and value the marginal – (systems edges have the highest productivity)
Use and respond to change – (the only thing constant is change, all change is opportunity)

Sorry for the wind noise at the beginning. Any PETA types do not bother to comment, this is an example of a rouge predator, one that kills and kills rather than kills and retreats with a meal. Such predators must be eliminated.
We lost at least 12 young layers in total along with some drakes and two geese, the financial loss alone to our farm there exceeds 3,000 dollars. This is however one coyote that will do no further damage to anyone or anything.
Big time equal credit to Charlie who bravely confronted the coyote, chased her into the coop and was then smart enough (a challenge for him) to back off and let me shoot it.
Charlie was later seen, pissing on the body! Good boy Charlie.
Last week I did this post, vowing that I would have this animal dead within a week, http://www.thesurvivalpodcast.com/tsp-will-return-tomorrow-a-coyote-will-die-asap
The post was on Nov. 16th, 8 days ago, one day late and too high a cost, but let it be known to any predator, if you harm my animals you head goes on a T-Post!

After buying his dream 10 acres Davis Chartier and his family looked at the cost of construction in the post CoVid era. Unwilling to go into debt for 3 decades he took his limited construction experience and a combination of DIY and acting as his own general contractor and set about building their dream home. Today they live in a home that we built with no construction loan and did it all with very minimal construction experience.
