***"Cocteau Twins"*** was a Scottish band active from 1979 to 1997. They were formed in Grangemouth by ***[Robin Guthrie](https://cutt.ly/tvKpRaT)*** (guitars, drum machine) and ***[Will Heggie](https://cutt.ly/nvKpOu1)*** (bass), adding ***[Elizabeth Fraser](https://cutt.ly/AvKpDfq)*** (vocals) in 1981 and replacing Heggie with multi-instrumentalist ***[Simon Raymonde](https://cutt.ly/CvKpJR8)*** in 1983.
The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, effects-laden sound and the vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often abandon recognisable language, than on the subjective sounds and textures of verbalized emotions. They pioneered the 1980s alternative rock subgenre of dream pop.
***"Garlands"*** is the debut studio album by ***"Cocteau Twins"***, released in 1982 on **"[4AD](https://cutt.ly/KvKaGFi)"**.
The album's sound was described as "a blend of ominous pulsating bass, stark TR808 drums, cyclical guitar and great screeching arcs of reverberating feedback, over which Liz alternated dry, brittle utterings with full-power vocal gymnastics.
Meaby the best comparison points are to the ***"Cure"*** on ***"Faith and Pornography"***, perhaps ***"Metal Box"***-era "***PiL"***, a touch of ***"Joy Division"*** here and there - in sum, deep, heavy mood verging on doom and gloom.
***”Garlands”*** falters due to something the band generally avoided in the future - over repetition. Too many of the songs rely on a unified formula that rarely changes; one need only compare to the multiplicity of styles tried on ***”Head Over Heels”*** to see the difference. As a debut effort, though, ***”Garlands”*** makes its own curious mark, preparing the band for greater heights.
***”But I'm Not”*** is the third song on ***”Cocteau Twins”*** debut album ***”[Garlands](https://cutt.ly/6vLHt6S)”.***

***"R.E.M."*** was an American rock band from ***[Athens, Georgia](https://cutt.ly/NmRkghQ)***, formed in 1980 by drummer ***[Bill Berry](https://cutt.ly/AmRklXQ)***, guitarist ***[Peter Buck](https://cutt.ly/ymRkcq5)***, bassist ***[Mike Mills](https://cutt.ly/CmRknrO)***, and lead vocalist ***[Michael Stipe](https://cutt.ly/lmRkQn5)***, who were students at the University of Georgia.
Combining ringing guitar hooks with mumbled, cryptic lyrics and a D.I.Y. aesthetic borrowed from post-punk, the band simultaneously sounded traditional and modern.
While there were a number of hardcore and punk bands in the U.S. during the early '80s, ***"R.E.M."*** brought guitar pop back into the underground lexicon. The band marked the point when post-punk turned into alternative rock, and inspired countless bands, from the legions of jangle pop groups in the mid-'80s to scores of alternative pop groups in the '90s, who admired their slow climb to stardom.
On their sixth album ***”Green”***, the band continued to explore political issues both in its lyrics and packaging on the album, writing major-key rock songs and incorporating new instruments into their sound including the mandolin, as well as switching their original instruments on other songs.
Brighter, poppier, mature, and a bit different, ***"Green"*** shows the band making a major turning point in their sound without forgetting too much of what made them excellent to begin with. The clean and crisp production, excellent hooky and rich material, decent structure, and razor sharp focus also helps this album be a classic in its own right.
Except for those tender ballads, ***"R.E.M."*** has completely lost its folk inflections. A heavy guitar sound has replaced the old Byrdsy jangle, and the trademark asymmetrical song structures are gone, too, now, verses are repeated for maximum catchiness.
Now it’s clear that ***”Green”** made one band ready. Ready for the ***”[Out of Time](https://cutt.ly/pmPOH0J)”***...
***”The Wrong Child”*** is the sixth song on the band’s sixth studio album ***"[Green](https://cutt.ly/lmPI0Oo)"***, released on November 7, 1988 by ***"Warner Bros. Records"***.

***”Republica”*** are an alternative rock band formed in 1994 in Windsor, Berkshire (England, United Kingdom). The group consists of ***[Samantha Sprackling](https://cutt.ly/ubVTD0g)*** (aka ***Saffron***, vocals), ***[Tim Dorney](https://cutt.ly/1bVYIk4)*** (keyboards), ***[Johnny Male](https://cutt.ly/8bVYNh2)*** (guitars) and ***[Pete Riley](https://cutt.ly/hbVY9p3)*** (drums). Other members have been Andy Todd (keyboards), David Barbarossa (drums), Alix Tiernan (percussion) and Mick Pirie (bass).
With cynicism and a wry sense of humor, ***”Republica”*** has succeeded in turning the tables on the London club scene, with what Saffron describes as "techno-pop punk rock."
***"Speed Ballads"*** the band's second album, is studio project employed a team of all-star producers including **[Alan Winstanley](https://cutt.ly/AbV719S)** and **[Ian Broudie](https://cutt.ly/SbV73Hc)**. What resulted was a cycle of ten tracks in an album far more diverse than their debut.
Much more song-based than their debut LP, ***"Speed Ballads"*** sees the esteemed production line-up building these songs into hugely ambitious Cinemascope productions. ***"Luxury Cage"*** and ***"Try Everything"*** are immense future-ballads, seemingly purpose-built to set the heart humming with the roof down and the wind in the hair.
At a time when the pure pop impulse is being ignored in favour of brooding impression, it's reassuring to hear Republica haven't abandoned this noble goal.
Saffron: "I don't get it when people say 'Just a pop band', I think being a brilliant pop band is the highest thing you can aspire to. Pop music is something that's both throwaway and something that changes your life. That's what we want to achieve - disposable brilliance".
***”Millennium”*** is the SEVENTH song on the Republica’s second album ***"[Speed Ballads](https://cutt.ly/1b1P1PG)"***, published by ***”[deConstruction](https://cutt.ly/tbVFUFr)”, in 1998.

**Steven Patrick Morrissey***, known by his surname, is an English singer, songwriter, and author. He came to prominence as the frontman of rock band the ***"[Smiths](https://cutt.ly/vvmCtDB)"*** who were active from 1982 to 1987. Since then, he has pursued a successful solo career.
Morrissey's music is characterised by his baritone voice and distinctive lyrics with recurring themes of emotional isolation, sexual longing, self-deprecating and dark humour, and anti-establishment stances.
***”Vauxhall and I”*** is the Morrissey’s fourth studio album, released on 14 March 1994, by the record label **Parlophone** in the UK and **Sire/Reprise** in the USA.
While it isn't a gutsy rock & roll record like ***”Your Arsenal”***, but filled with carefully constructed guitar pop gems, ***”Vauxhall and I”*** sounds the most like Morrissey's former band, yet the textured, ringing guitar on this record is an extension of his past, not a replication of it. It's not just a solid Smithslike album.
The songwriting is pretty consistent throughout, and has quite a lot of emotional depth to it. While the instrumentation won't blow anyone away, the album never sounds generic or mundane, blessed as it is by great songs and a superb production. As opposed to the glam rock leanings in ‘Your Arsenal’, this album consists mostly of ballads which are the most personal of the artist’s career.
**”Lifeguard Sleeping, Girl Drowning”*** is the ninth song on Morrissey’s fourth studio album ***”Vauxhall and I”***.

Мusic is alive with blazing, echoing guitar chords, sun-kissed vocal harmonies, and a blistering rhythm section. It’s a warm, glowing version of *shoegaze* that celebrates the beauty and romanticism of the genre.
> With ***“Ablaze”***, ***Welton*** and ***Ferrell*** seem to be at peace with their particular niche in that vein of rich guitar textures and serene vocals - ultimately there's very little surprising on the album, but neither is there anything disappointing as a result.
