NEW mode coming to Battlefield 2042 is Hazard Zone, and this, too, remains largely a mystery. DICE's Oskar Gabrielson teased that it's "not your classic battle royale," but is instead aiming to blaze its own trail. Hazard Zone is a "high stakes squad based game mode with a lot of high tension. It's not your classic battle royale, it's a really contemporary mode," he said. "It's also something the team has been thinking about for many years. It has some really special components, and it really leans into the super powers of Battlefield and DICE at the same time," Gabrielson added. NEW GAMEPLAY! Video showcasing JI-SOO PAIK Specialist in Battlefield 2042. (RECON), Paik is a South Korean Recon specialist with two different ways to highlight enemies that are giving her trouble. Her primary gadget is a scanner that temporarily highlights nearby enemies through walls (and possibly for your squadmates; it's not clear). It's basically a short-lived wallhacks button, similar to Bloodhound's scanner in Apex Legends. Paik's passive ability is a sensor that will automatically highlight enemies that shoot at her (again, not yet sure if that info is shared with your squad). In contrast, "for the first four to six hours in the full game, expect to be working with a reduced array of gadgets for your open gadget slot, with your journey through the ranks slowly introducing new ones for your loadouts. That traditional experience of a Battlefield game, where classes fulfill traditional roles is an experience that you graduate out of through the first 10 levels."
