When many Americans think of the term ‘state,’ they would imagine Texas or Florida or any one of the 48 other sovereign entities that make up the Constitutional Republic.
What would surprise many is the fact that in the corporate language of the United States, the District of Columbia and all the various other territories are officially referred to as ‘states.’
This ties into other language, where the colloquial use of some terms are the same words but have entirely different meanings than the official corporate definitions.
The reasons for creating confusion should be obvious. The National Government doesn’t have jurisdiction over sovereign Americans by design, so it created another separate jurisdiction and used identical terminology to perform an end-around on some U.S. Supreme Court decisions, in particular the Pollock decision in 1895 stating that an unapportioned federal income tax is unconstitutional.
