The Astrology of Eyes Wide Shut - A Film Exploring the 8th & 12th Houses
In this presentation I discuss how Stanley Kubrick’s final film “Eyes Wide Shut” is about the 8th & 12th Houses in astrology. Kubrick didn’t consciously make it about this topic in astrology, of course, but the Houses are universal human experiences and EWS’s themes can be directly related to the themes of the 8th & 12th Houses in all of our lives.
In the Appendix at the end of the presentation I cover the hidden messages and symbols that Stanley *supposedly* inserted into the film. Were these symbols deliberately added by Kubrick, giving the film deeper and more subversive layers of meaning? Or are they simply "artistic serendipity", intriguing byproducts of the creative process of the 20th century’s greatest filmmaker? I’ll let you decide.

In this series we will be studying a single Sign in your chart that is fundamental to your psychological development and growth - the 'Svamsa'. It is not in your natal chart, but in your Navamsa chart, or the 9th Divisional Chart (D9).
In order to fully grasp the meaning of the Svamsa Sign, we need to understand the Houses of Dharma & Self - the 1st, 5th and 9th Houses in our Natal Chart. They create a harmonic of 5s, and the number 5, esoterically, is the knowledge of good and evil and the choice point between doing what is right for us, or wrong for us.
The 1st House is our body and mind - our individual path in life, using our intelligence to walk that path, and the path itself.
The 5th House is our creative intelligence - using knowledge gathered on our path to create things the exist outside of us, such as children, a dynasty, or any creative project.
The 9th House is our large purpose - forming a higher purpose based on our unique path, and our ability to use our knowledge for something bigger than our individual Self.
The information in this video is essential as a foundation for understanding and using the Svamsa Sign as a tool for personal psychological development.

This more obscure Vedic tale, about the disciple taking over the ashram of his guru, illustrates the endless cycle of material concerns. It is pertinent to the challenges of an Aries Svamsa person both from its reference to "rats and cats" (Jaimini's brief description of Aries) as well as the an Aries Svamsa's tendency to become overwhelmed with the small material annoyances in life, and neglect their higher spiritual purpose.

A special thanks to Ernst Wilhelm for his diligent and illuminating translation of the Jaimini Padas 1-4, and his elaborate commentary on the Jaimini system of astrology.

In Part Three of this series I look into the characteristics of the Silver Age, also called the Treta-yuga. It is the Age of Magnetism, and it is the time period when many mythological texts describe beings with "powers" or supernatural abilities.
This is because the internal potency of the beings during this time is only one level down from the Golden Age, and the magnetic and vibratory frequency of the Earth supports the use of such abilities.
It is the yuga when dharma practice focuses on Cleanliness, which is another way of saying strict ritualistic methods that seek to balance human society with the deities that administer over the forces of nature.
///
The collective humanity, and the Earth itself, go through long-term, macro developments in consciousness, and we call this the Cycle of Ages. The Vedic culture of ancient India has preserved the most detailed information (in written form) on this subject than any other surviving tradition.
The Cycle of Ages has profound ramifications for how we can approximate dates for important historical events, even into deep antiquity - the methodology of chronology, or setting dates to historical events. But it is also critically important with regards to the development of human spiritual consciousness - the methodology of astrology, or the scientific measurement of energetic environments.
Each Age has an energetic condition with certain potentialities for certain activities to take place. Astrologers can use the Cycle of Ages as a tool to give a macro context to the collective spiritual development on Earth at a given time, as well as use it to put our current energetic environment in perspective with the past and future energetic environments.
