I may do Fire Emblem content on this channel but I am not a Fire Emblem YouTuber. If I was, I would be very different. But anyway, this is a game I've been dying to cover on this channel. I've heard a lot of things about this game and I have even taken the liberty of playing it on my own time.

This is Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, also known as Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu. Released on May 14th, 1996 for the Super Famicom, the game would go on to critical and commercial success. It's also one of the most influential games where many of its elements introduced in this game would reappear in later titles. I only wish it got released overseas. Imagine the reception it would have gotten.

It's set in the continent of Jugdral but it is in the same world as the Archanea games. Only difference is that it's a few hundred years before the events of the original Fire Emblem games. Plus it's split into two generations. We begin with the first generation, centering on the protagonist Sigurd. Sigurd and his army have to deal with a bandit raid from Verdane led by Gandalf. However this alone would be the starting point of everything going downhill for the land of Jugdral.

In terms of gameplay, Fire Emblem 4 introduced a lot of things that would be staples in later entries. For starters the weapon triangle: swords beat axes, axes beat lances and lances beat swords. There's even a magic triangle: wind beats thunder, thunder beats fire and fire beats wind. Light and darkness however beats all three. Not only that but the maps in these places are huge, hence why cavalry and flying units have more of an advantage than infantry and armor. They have Canto which was introduced in this series.

There are a lot of other things that are added in this too but I'll explain them as we go. Part 2 will conclude the Prologue: Birth of a Crusader.
