I've been reflecting on what there is to be proud about, being Canadian. We typically don't really wave our flags and pound our chests all that much, but we certainly are a nation that loves its country. In these recent times of globalization, and of societal breakdown, and of government abuse of power, I think we need to think about what there is to be proud of.
One thing about Canada is the history. In only 200 years or so, there is some history to be proud of. I ran across this original (and almost forgotten) translation of "O Canada" and found it to be quite amazing. Very little "true patriot love!" or "God keep our land glorious!!!!" It's short and to the point. Canada is beautiful, strong, and offers true freedom to its inhabitants. What more needs to be said? Oh, right, the last line - we aint gonna give it up easily.
