Oh dear! Kyosho USA-1 1/8 monster truck has one WEIRD design for the steering. So easy to fix... why on earth didn't they do something like this from the factory? I'm baffled!
Thankfully, it's an easy fix! Full video coming soon!
Put an FPV system into your RC Crawler or RC excavator to utterly transform your driving experience! It's as simple as adding a camera and video transmitter (aka. VTX) - feeding the VTX typically 3.3v to 5v via a BEC - and then receiving the video feed in a pair of radio-receiver-goggles (simply, 'FPV Goggles'). Then, just drive as usual - but enjoy the immense change in perspective!
It's a lot of fun! If you have $100 burning a hole in your pocket, this is a great way to squeeze more fun out of the hobby in short order. Spice it up driving with friends, set up some goals or some kind of time trial and you'll have a blast, I guarantee it.
Quick and easy setup is to use these two items (affiliate links, doesn't affect your price, just gives me a small commission if you choose to use them - thanks!):
Get your SCX24 here: https://www.asiatees.com/display?Axial-SCX24-Parts-Hop-Ups-Upgrades&brand=Axial&model=SCX24&id=194905&pid=1&rc_pal=3736303730
Eachine TX03 Camera & VTX (Video Transmitter) USD$23: https://www.banggood.com/custlink/Gmvh4r5aUn
Eachine EV800 FPV Goggles USD$60: https://www.banggood.com/custlink/mvDYecPlM2
The goggles come with their own power supply.
The camera needs 3v to 5v, so you could connect it directly to a 1S LiPO battery or you could feed it 3.3v from this BEC, connected to your model's receiver (at 4.5V to 7V - or find a beefier unit that converts from higher voltage; just look for '3.3v BEC'): https://www.banggood.com/custlink/mGmy4rVOkT
And that's it! You can get better picture if you separate the camera and the VTX, which is what I did in the SCX24. I used these items:
Eachine 1000TVL 1/3" CCD Camera: https://www.banggood.com/custlink/Kv3ygctaf3
Eachine NANO V2 VTX w/Mic: https://www.banggood.com/custlink/3DKEBcHoud

As always with FPV, it's good practice to operate any model with direct line of sight supervision and in many countries, with someone who has control and line of sight of the model so they can intervene if needed.
Always fly/drive with common sense. Obey the local laws of the area in which you're operating. Be aware of people, cars, animals, other hazards around you.

Daniel went and built himself a crawler park! We travel 2.5 hours to check this place out. Still being actively developed, there is plenty to do and a day to spend with a few mates.
I brought my Cross RC EMO AT4, my baby Capra UTB18 and my full-sized 4WS Capra. Had a blast, will be back! Let me show you what we got up to on the weekend :)
Let's drive!

The Traxxas Bandit XL5 buggy is a brilliant little performer out of the box. It's also the cheapest 1/10 scale car Traxxas sells. It's a well-aged platform at this point and while there have been changes over its 30 years of production, it's still essentially the same machine as always.
We know its cheap and we know its fun. But can it be a bit peppier on the track and give us some better battery life? A modest brushless system upgrade could help with that, you'd think...
Let's test!

WHAT WE INSTALLED:
MOTOR: Surpass Hobby 3660 3100kv Brushless
ESC: Hobbywing 10BL60 Sensored 60A
PINION: Hobbywing 21T 5MM 48P Steel Pinion Gear (P/N: 30820201)
WHERE TO GET IT:
Motor - this one has been discontinued! I must have bought the last one, sorry everyone!! Any 3650 to 3670 size should be fine. Doesn't have to be sensored - ours isn't. Aim for a 3000 to 3600kv 3650 to 3670 size and you'll be set.
ESC: https://www.hobbywing.com/goods.php?id=353
An alternative: https://www.hobbywing.com/goods.php?id=355
Motor & ESC Systems - get the 3300kv, not the 2600kv option: https://www.banggood.com/custlink/mGvJtIu85l
Or this, when the 3300kv option is in stock: https://www.banggood.com/custlink/GGKJtI18tQ
Pinion: https://www.amainhobbies.com/robinson-racing-48p-machined-pinion-gear-5mm-bore-21t-rrp2021/p454470?v=218933
If you want to do this yourself, you could absolutely put a bigger pinion on the motor to get more speed. The motor is hardly working with a 21t pinion gear here - I wanted it like that, but a 24 or 25 tooth pinion would give you speed and still keep motor temps from getting too bad. If you have a higher kv motor than about 3500kv, keep the pinion under 23 teeth for heat and current management.

The JD Models 1:14 Zetros 6x6 truck is clearly designed with heavy hauling in mind. The model hauler's drivetrain is heavy-duty and apart from a minor issue with my review unit's rear drive-shaft, the entire rig just screams "LOAD ME HEAVY!". From epic rear leaf stacks to 8 high-rigidity rubber tires in the rear, this Benz 6x6 truck is purpose built to haul the heaviest scale loads you have.
RC4WD lists this vehicle as the JD Customs Sledge Hammer, but whether it's JDC or JDM, this big Benz is the new go-to for heavy scale loads.
I'm looking forward to hitching this RC Mercedes Benz Zetros to the Cross RC T247 and hauling some of the heavier RC construction machinery around my trails on the property here. I expect this burly RC Benz rig will get the job done.
** Correction: I said it was a 5-slot motor. It's actually a 3-slot; just your standard, cheap, rebuildable 45T 540 brushed motor.

Factory pin tires for 1.9? Oh yes!
Finally, no more 'cut-n-shut' at the workbench with scissors, super glue and perfectly good 2.2" tires going under the knife. We put RC4WD's latest rubbery goodness to the test on the obvious candidate, the Axial Capra UTB18. And this one has had a little work done already...

RC construction equipment. It's impressive stuff and FUN to play with! Today we take a look at a heavy-duty, all-brushless, 1:14 hydraulic RC wheel loader. It weighs 20KG (or 48lb) and can lift roughly its own weight. It features a full electronics package, including lights and sound, and it is ready to work!
Come along for the tour as we have a play and get to know this impressive machine. Let's test!

Where to buy? Depends on where you are in the world. These can be found on AliExpress. Also, RC4WD is a reseller of JD Models vehicles and that includes a wheel loader similar to (but not the same as) this one. This machine doesn't have a brand, if you're wondering. I'm guessing this niche in RC is not quite as 'Westernised' in that regard (that is, the West likes its labels, whilst China in particular has a singular focus on output, so branding and model names just aren't as important as the product itself).
In any case, it's a lovely model. If you're interested in buying one, search the web for 'rc hydraulic wheel loader' and you'll find your way through.

Naked vs Hard Body vs Polycarbonate Body: Any Difference? The Traxxas TRX-4 Sport kit is a stunning little performer in stock form. It is a popular mod to remove some of the body weight the pretty body ships with (if built according to the manual) - but are the gains worth the pain? Today we'll test how much difference it makes (or not) to cut the TRX4 Sport's rack in the pursuit of better rock performance.
Crawl & Tip Test Results:
Lexan Body (457g):
Lap 1: 2.46; -9
Lap 2: 2.22; -20
Lap 3: 2.09; -12
Avg. Score: -13.6
Control/No Body:
Lap 1: 2.06; -15
Lap 2: 2.06; -11
Lap 3: 1.53; -16
Avg. Score: -14
Hard Body (1004g):
Lap 1: 2.49; -3
Lap 2: 2.22; -11
Lap 3: 2.07; -15
Avg. Score: -9.6
It looks like it maybe isn't worth it unless you're comping with the truck at a high level - in which case every gram does certainly make a difference. I would argue for most people, myself included 95% of the time, that chopping the pretty accessories rack is a losing proposition with diminishing returns of aesthetics vs performance gain.
Of course, your opinion may differ and technically, you'd be right - every gram or ounce certainly counts, there's no question, just look at the tip test results! But practically, I personally don't think the numbers are sufficiently compelling, especially if you've got a little extra weight added down low on the axles or in heavier wheels.
