After a look at some works by members of the “Orthodox” school of landscape in the late Ming and early Qing periods, the so-called Four Wangs, we explore at length the leaves in a strange and fascinating album of “dream” landscapes by the less-known Suzhou master Shao Mi.
Adam Hochschild is the author of eight books; the latest, Spain in Our Hearts: Americans and the Spanish Civil War, 1936-1939, appeared in 2016. Bury the Chains: Prophets and Rebels in the Fight to Free an Empire's Slaves won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the PEN USA Literary Award, the Gold Medal of the California Book Awards, and was a finalist for the National Book Award. He has twice been a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.

Robin Blaser emerged from the Berkeley Renaissance of the 1940s and '50s along with Jack Spicer and Robert Duncan, and later established himself as one of Canada's foremost experimental poets. In addition to numerous works of poetry, criticism, and translation, Blaser has also penned an English and Latin opera libretto entitled The Last Supper in collaboration with Sir Harrison Birtwistle.
