This video shows how I put up my Zpacks Duplex backpacking tent using Trekking Poles. I also own the Free Standing Pole Kit and that enables you to set up the tent without using Trekking Poles. The free standing pole kit weighs 10 oz. This also enables you to set up the tent and pick it up to move it. If you have your equipment inside, that is generally enough weight to not have the wind blow your tent away but if it's empty and there's a strong wind, it will blow away. To stop this, stake it down on the 4 corners. If you want to utilize the vestibules, you will need two more stakes to hold the vestibules out away from the tent. In this video, I do use a lightweight rechargeable air pump to inflate my Thermarest xlite neoair sleep pad.

It seems like game passes by after 2 AM. This Fox looks healthy. We have seen scraggily foxes before but not one that looks this nice.

I was going out to the garden yesterday in the middle of the day and...SKUNK!!! It was crossing the yard and went into the small woods behind our yard. Strange... They don't normally come out in the daytime.

This is another way to pull the bathtub floor away from the roof to help prevent rain from being snagged by your bathtub floor.
Also shown is the clothesline I added. Use Dyneema cord to prevent stretching.
It’s also super lightweight.

Where are they? WHERE!!! I know I put them away. Let this be a lesson to all of you especially if backpacking. Always put things away in the same place. Did you know Smart water bottle caps shatter? They do.

Our security lights get triggered in the middle of the night. Usually it’s deer. This morning our camera caught the culprit.

If you hike in the woods where ticks, mosquitoes, chiggers and other nasty critters lurk, it’s a good idea to get your clothing treated with Permethrin by a company called Insect Shield.
They treat military clothing and also sell hiking and outdoor clothing.
“But I can treat it myself with Permethrin. “
Yes you can but it won’t last through 70 laundering’s and it will have an odor.
For $79.95 USD (2021), they will send you a large envelope with a prepaid FedEx label on it. You fill it up and FedEx picks it up at your home. They’ll treat it and send it back to you via FedEx. That’s a bargain. And there’s no odor!
If you decide to treat your clothing on your own, it’s kind of messy, your clothing has an odor and it might last a month if you’re lucky. Then there’s the cost of buying permethrin and you can’t carry the leftover with you. It’s too heavy.
With all the ticks on the Appalachian Trail, I’m trusting my health to Insect Shield.
