The Hacker search bar works as you type. This can save you a lot of time when searching. Why? Because it's often the case you don't need to type an entire word to find what you're looking for. Sometimes it's enough to type in as little as two or three characters but you can't know that unless the editor is giving you feedback with each keystroke. With Hacker search you're getting the visual feedback as you type and not wasting a keystroke more than what is required to find what you're looking for. Once you've found it your search term is added to the Hacker recent searches tab in the navigator.
If a match is found you can scroll your mouse wheel up or down to browse through all matches within the open file, or press the up or down arrow keys, or the buttons next to the search bar. If you reach the top or bottom of the document and have not found what you're looking for, the Hacker Search Box (see below) will appear if any other matches are found within any files in the addon you are working on. This is a godsend for many reasons, not least of all debugging.
In Hacker you can highlight any text in the editor then just press Ctrl-F and you'll instantly hop to any existing matches within the open file. You can just keep pressing it until you find what you're looking for. No need to copy or paste text to the search bar and then press another button.
Hacker will automatically include lower and uppercase results in your search, unless you intentionally type in an uppercase character into the search bar. Then the matches will return case sensitive. This leaves exactly one use case not covered automatically which would be if the user is searching for something specifically only lower cased, in which case Blender's regular search can be used.
The Hacker search box is another custom drawn feature. Like everything else in Hacker, the search box is addon-centric. If you have a file open that belongs to a particular module (usually an addon) and your search is not found within that file, Hacker immediately searches all other files within all directories of the detected addon. If it finds any matches in other files within the addon, the search box will appear with a list of the files within the addon that contain search term matches to the left. To the right are all the search term matches belonging to that file.
You can scroll through the files by pressing the up or down arrow keys or by pressing the up or down search buttons that display next to the Hacker search bar. You can scroll through the individual search terms found within a file by pressing the right arrow key and then scrolling up or down. Unlike Autofill in the Text Editor, the Search Box was designed to work just with the arrow keys or up and down search buttons. The idea being, if you do not fi
