The optional equipment for the Volkswagen Scirocco II consisted of leather upholstery, electric windows and mirrors, air conditioning and sunroof. Under the hood of the Volkswagen Scirocco you can find one of several propulsion units that have been modified over the years, thanks to which their power increased. The basic variant was a 1.3 liter 60 HP engine. A slightly more powerful unit is the 1.5-liter 70 HP motor. Four 1.6 variants were also offered, with 72 hp, 75 hp, 85 hp and 110 hp.
The largest capacity in the range had a 1.8-liter engine with 90 HP, 95 HP, 112 HP, 129 HP (16V) or 139 HP (16V). The 90 HP variant accelerated to a hundred in 10.1 s, and the more powerful 112 hp engine reached a hundred after 9.1 s. Production of the Volkswagen Scirocco II was completed in 1992. The car found a total of 291 497 buyers. The Volkswagen Scirocco II is succeeded by the Volkswagen Corrado, which debuted in 1988 and was produced by Karmann Coachworks in Osnabrück.
Volkswagen Golf MkI is a passenger car belonging to the C segment, i.e. the compact class. He made his debut in 1974, as the successor to the legendary, but very well-worn Beetle Type 1 model, commonly known in Poland as the "Beetle". In the United States, the Golf model was sold as the Volkswagen Rabbit. The stylistic side of the car was developed by the esteemed designer Giorgio Giugiaro. In addition to modern design, there were many innovative solutions under the hood. The engine was placed in the front, transversely, the front wheels were driven. The model was available in several body versions, as a 3- and 5-door hatchback, a 2-door convertible and a 2-door coupe (pickup). It is believed that Golf has started the class of compact cars and (version of the GTI with 112 hp), also the class of hot-hatch cars, i.e. sports compacts. The first generation was produced and sold in an amount of nearly 7 million copies. Production ended in 1984, although Golf I was built in South Africa as City Golf until 2009, and last
a copy of the convertible version rolled off the belt in 1993. From 1983, the first generation was replaced by Golf II.
Golf Country was established in 1990 in cooperation with Steyr-Puch based on the Syncro version, i.e. the first Golf with four-wheel drive. Over 400 elements were changed, including suspension. Among other things, a cover under the engine was added, the ground clearance increased by 6 cm, and of course racial piping from the outside was added.

Manufactured since 1988, the third generation of the model (reference: B3). Volkswagen Passat B3 hit the North American market in 1990, while in South Africa it made its debut only in 1995. The car was characterized by modern, streamlined shapes that contrasted with the angular, boxy figures of its predecessors. He was the first Passat offered around the world under one name. The model won the 3rd place in the plebiscite for the European Car of the Year in 1989. Sales of the Passat B3 on the Old Continent and in North America were completed in 1994.
Volkswagen Passat B3 was created in two body versions: as a 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon. Interestingly, one of the equipment options for the station wagon was the Nivomat air suspension.
The main advantage of the Volkswagen Passat B3 is a wide range of power units. Buyers can choose from eight gasoline engines and three diesel engines. The list of gasoline units opens with a 1.6-liter variant and 75 HP, which allows you to accelerate to a hundred in 15.5 seconds. The same power is developed by the 1.8-liter unit, which differs only in cylinder diameter and piston stroke. The manufacturer also offers three 1.8-liter engines with 90 hp, 107 hp or 160 hp (the last with four-wheel drive Syncro) and two 2.0-liter engines with 115 hp and 136 hp.
The unquestioned icing on the cake is the 2.8 l version of the VR6, which thanks to 174 hp, depending on the body version (sedan or station wagon), allows you to accelerate to a hundred in 8.2 seconds or 8.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 224 km / h or 218 km / h. The only downside of the Volkswagen Passat B3 VR6 is combustion, which in the city is on average 12.5 l / 100 km.
Passata B3 was produced in three different equipment versions: CL, GL and GT. The CL version only included basic equipment and its characteristic feature were orange turn signals. GL provided a higher level of comfort. blue sunshade on the windscreen and trunk blind. The Passat B3 GT was for people who were looking for a sporty character in the car. In this version, the car had wide door moldings and sports seats.
In addition to the three basic equipment versions, the Passat B3 often came out in special editions, which differed in many respects. The best known were offered under the Trend, Arriva, Exclusive, Pacific and Classic Line brands. Also, tuning companies added their pennies, which offered customers visual additions in the form of e.g. a grill or a spoiler lip on the tailgate.
In Europe, the version of Harlequin (or Harlekin) is associated mainly with Polo, but in the US also Golf III has lived to see it. The principle was simple: the whole thing was to look like the dream of a varnish artist from Wola Dzbadzka.
The customers had a choice of four basic colors, i.e. those with which the C-pillars were interested. They were: Pistachio Green, Ginster Yellow, Tornado Red and Chagall Blue. Interestingly, popular ones did not appear in the "regular" Golf range.
Harlequin turtlenecks "performed" at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. This meant that the dealer from this city was later gifted with an entire square full of such Golfs that he had to sell. Only four were successful. There was no other way: you had to repaint them into the usual colors.
if someone has been to South Africa recently, he may have been surprised by how well their drivers take care of their historic first generation Golfs. In the end, the last "Single" rolled off the tape in Europe in 1983, and on the streets of Cape Town or Johannesburg you can still see many shiny, well-groomed such cars ...
Only that the production of the first Golf ended in South Africa only ten years ago - and the youngest units have not yet been used up too much. Such a car was sold there as Citi Golf (but apparently you could even take it on the road ...).
Over the years, many changes and improvements have been made to South African Golf. The most important was the introduction in 2004 ... of the dashboard from Skoda Fabia. An airbag for the driver was also installed. As befits a Volkswagen, many limited editions were also offered. There were Citi Golfs with 1.8 engines, reaching 100 km / h in 8.5 seconds. There were also 93 copies in pink. Unfortunately, there was no Harlequin version.
Volkswagen Corrado is a used sports car with front-wheel drive. Only gasoline engines were installed under the bonnet. These were the following units: 1.8 l (140 HP, assembled in 1989 - 1992), 1.8 l G60 with compressor (160 HP, 1988 - 1993), 2.0 l (115 HP, 1993 - 1995), 2.0 l (136 HP, 1991 - 1995) and 6-cylinder 2.8 l VR 6 (175 HP, 1990 - 1995) and 2.9 l VR 6 (190 HP, 1991 - 1995). 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearboxes cooperated with the engines. The most powerful units, even iconic, were considered the most powerful VR 6 engines and a compressor (mechanical scroll compressor) 1.8 L G60 engine. The weakest, 2-liter unit with 115 hp, accelerates Volkswagen Corrado to a hundred in 11 seconds. Basic 1.8 l engine ( 140 HP) needs only 9 s. The average fuel consumption of the most powerful engines usually does not exceed 10 l / 100 km. For many buyers, it is important that their used car can be repaired without spending a fortune. For Volkswagen Corrado, it all depends on what parts you need to fix the fault. If those that the manufacturer also used in other cars (in Passat B3 and Golf II), then their prices are very low. On the other hand, prices of parts used only and exclusively at Volkswagen Corrado are slightly higher. Volkswagen Corrado is 4050 mm long and, as befits a sports car, is low. It measures only 1310 mm in height. The width of the vehicle before facelift was 1674 mm, and after it was carried out - 1689 mm. The wheelbase changed similarly. Until 1992, it measured 2471 mm, after modernizing the car - 2469 mm. The curb weight of the car, depending on the engine version, is in the range of 1114-1274 kg. Volkswagen Corrado is a very interesting and characteristic used car. On the second-hand car market, you can still find neat examples that will serve the future buyer for many years to come.
