*i do not own original video. please contact me if there is any issue.*
original video is 720p 25fps, and i wondered how would it be look like in doubled fps.
this is comparison of original and 50fps interpolated video for demo.
reproduce steps:
-
first, i downloaded original video using youtube-dl.
-
then i extracted each frame with ffmpeg.
[ffmpeg -hwaccel auto -i original.mp4 "frames/%06d.png"]
this step only takes few mins.
-
this step is main topic.
i used rife binary to double frames.
[rife_filename -i frames -o newframes]
this took around 25mins on my RX590 GPU with full load and little amount of OC.
-
next, i reassembled processed frames and encoded into single mp4 file with ffmpeg.
[ffmpeg -hwaccel auto -framerate 50 -i ./newframes/%08d.png -crf 17 -preset veryfast assembled.mp4]
this takes under 10 mins.
-
finally, i stacked horizontally two videos, original and interpolated.
ffmpeg -hwaccel auto -i original.mp4 -i assembled.mp4 -vf [0][1]hstack -crf 17 -preset faster output.mkv]
this step also takes under 10 mins.
and final output.mkv was uploaded.
so, is it worth to use a lot of electricity and 20x more processing time to just watch video in doubled fps?
no, at least you are not releasing it to many people. i originally planned to process 10 min video, but turned out it takes too long
