I was setting up an LM317 adjustable voltage regulator circuit to replace an old 1.35V Mercury D cell that was inside a Fluke 540B Thermal Transfer Standard. I noticed that the output voltage was only stable when the input was below 7V, above that and its output increased with increasing input voltage. I thought I would do a little video showing what I found, it may be helpful to someone that is trying to use the LM317 to build a power supply. I continue the repairs on the HP 8901B Modulation Analyzer. I replace the faulty capacitor, adjust power supply voltage, and replace the noisy fan. I use my Audio Control SA-3050 RTA to measure the noise spectrum and SPL of the fan before and after replacement. I also do a little bit to calibrate it.
