Today's walk is in the area of the touristy souk markets with their spices, fabrics and basically everything else you want to buy as a tourist. But we're mainly exploring the old trade district with it's narrow streets and busy sidewalks today. This not too long walk will give a good impression of the not so shiny area of Dubai, which we all know from the 'rich and famous' Instagram photo's and videos on TikTok. No, this is how most people in Dubai live and work.
I walked this trip in early April 2022. Total walking distance of this walk is about 2.2 kilometers.

I visited the Sam Poo Kong temple on a Friday morning. It was still extremely quiet at around nine in the morning. This is partially due to measures imposed around Covid-19. Expect this place to be more busy on afternoons, weekends and national holidays.
Sam Poo Kong, also known as Gedung Batu Temple, is the oldest Chinese temple in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. Originally established by the Chinese Muslim explorer Zheng He - also known as Sanbao, it is now shared by Indonesians of multiple religious denominations, including Muslims and Buddhists, and ethnicities, including Chinese and Javanese.
Entrance to the complex starts at 10,000 rupiah, about 60 eurocent, 70 US dollar cent. Atmittance to the temples itself is an additional 25,000 rupiah (1,45 euro/1,70 US dollar. Combination tickets are sold at the entrance. Prices accurate at time of publication of this video.

This train passenger almost succeeded into killing himself – twice – while trying to get on a moving and speeding up train. This incident took place at the main train station of Yogyakarta city in Indonesia and was recorded by shocked bystanders that noticed the man was making a dash for the train after it started moving.
In this clip, the man is seen running to the train while bypassing station security while trying to open a door to jump in. The door doesn’t open and the man falls. After he crawls back up, he is helped by station security again but escapes and gives it another try. By now, the train his speeding up further. But the second attempt also fails with the train door staying closed.
The man eventually was brought to the hospital with injuries to his legs. Apparently, he was in such a hurry to get on the train as he arrived in the same train, but got off to buy food. Only to notice the train wasn’t stopping for that long, with his belongings still on the train. Knowing the service of the Indonesian railways, they will be ready for pick up at the final destination, some 6 hours away in Jakarta.

Since it's mostly raining, we have to be a little bit creative here in Taipei, but we're managing just okay on our first day here. To avoid some of the wetness coming down from the skies over the city, I walked around in the tunnels of what basically is Taipei main trainstation, but also a mall? Anyway, today we're going to bring a visit to the only remaining part of the Taipei city wall at the North Gate before we take the metro to the Bangka Lungshan Temple, which is among the most popular temples in the city among locals and tourists alike.
