***"The Cranberries"*** were an Irish rock band formed in Limerick, Ireland. Originally named the ***"Cranberry Saw Us"***, the band formed in 1989 by lead singer Niall Quinn, guitarist ***[Noel Hogan](https://cutt.ly/mvPT5VJ)***, bassist Mike Hogan, and drummer Fergal Lawler. Quinn was replaced as lead singer by ***[Dolores O'Riordan](https://cutt.ly/nvPYv31)*** in 1990, and they changed their name to the ***"Cranberries"***.
Then, they performed their first UK tour opening for the British band ***”Moose”*** throughout a series of three weeks. “***The Cranberries***” received more letters expressing interest from ***Virgin***, ***EMI***, ***Imago***, ***CBS***, and ***Warner***, which led Hogan brothers to quit their jobs.
***”The Cranberries”*** headed back into the studio in Dublin in March 1992 to restart working on their first LP with ***[Stephen Street](https://cutt.ly/8vSpqEg)***, who had previously worked with the ***Smiths***.
***"No Need to Argue"*** is the Cranberries second studio album, released on 3 October 1994. The album's mood is darker and harsher than that on ***"Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?"***, released a year before. In some of the songs, the band decided to take on a rockier and heavier side, using distortion and increasing the volume.
Besides many interesting facts, there is one, unimportant for music, as much for its visualization.
For the sleeve design, the Art-director hired the same sofa that featured on the debut album. The sofa was transported by hand to many locations, coming to rest in a photo-studio where the white room had been constructed for the cover shot.
The sofa later appeared in the video for ***"Alright"*** by the British band ***Supergrass*** in 1995.

Like many other British bands of the '90s, Supergrass' musical roots lie in the infectiously catchy punk-pop of the **”[Buzzcocks](https://cutt.ly/ocD7zjf)”** and the **”[Jam](hhttps://cutt.ly/ucD7cLo)”**, as well as the post-punk pop of **”[Madness](https://cutt.ly/CcD7nF9)”** and the traditional Brit-pop of the **”[Kinks](https://cutt.ly/ocD7WLF)”** and **”[Small Faces](https://cutt.ly/EcD7YyS)”**.
With an exuberant, youthful enthusiasm, Supergrass tied all of their influences together in surprising new ways, where a Buzzcocks riff could slam into three-part harmonies out of *"Crocodile Rock,"* or have a galloping music hall rhythm stutter like the best moments of **”[The Who](https://cutt.ly/XcD7IpL)”**.
***"Diamond Hoo Ha"*** is the band's sixth studio album, released on 24 March 2008, and offers a return to punchier songs, in comparison to the more mellow ***"Road to Rouen"***, their previous album released in 2005.
The album was recorded at **”[Hansa Tonstudio](https://cutt.ly/BcD9XvV)”** in Berlin where ***[David Bowie](https://cutt.ly/icD4i5v)***, amongst others, had also previously recorded albums. The group apparently spent six months writing lyrics for the album, splitting into pairs for inspiration. Opening with one of the catchiest riffs of the year, **”Supergrass”*** go back to doing what they do best with this criminally overlooked glammy hard rock gem. No, there's nothing here that hasn't been done before, but it doesn't matter when the songs and production are this tight.

Combining ringing guitar hooks with mumbled, cryptic lyrics and a D.I.Y. aesthetic borrowed from post-punk, the band simultaneously sounded traditional and modern.
While there were a number of hardcore and punk bands in the U.S. during the early '80s, ***"R.E.M."*** brought guitar pop back into the underground lexicon. The band marked the point when post-punk turned into alternative rock, and inspired countless bands, from the legions of jangle pop groups in the mid-'80s to scores of alternative pop groups in the '90s, who admired their slow climb to stardom.
Aided by string arrangements from ***[John Paul Jones](https://cutt.ly/AmOXPYS)***, the band’s eighth album***”Automatic for the People”*** features ruminations on mortality, loss, mourning and nostalgia.
At its core, it’s a collection of folk songs about aging, death, and loss, but the music has a grand, epic sweep provided by layers of lush strings, interweaving acoustic instruments, and shimmering keyboards.
The album captures the group at a crossroads, as they moved from cult heroes to elder statesmen, and the album is a graceful transition into their new status.
***”R.E.M.”*** have never been as emotionally direct as they are on this album, nor have they ever created music quite as rich and timeless, and while the record is not an easy listen, it is the most rewarding record in their oeuvre.

***Sonic Youth*** was an American rock band based in *New York City*, formed in 1981.

***“Airiel”*** is an American shoegaze band formed as ***“Airiel Project One”*** in 1997, in ***[Bloomington](https://cutt.ly/4QLvozb)***, ***Indiana***, by guitarist and vocalist ***[Jeremy Wrenn](https://cutt.ly/yQLxNkZ)*** and former bandmate ***Shawn Delaney***.
Eventually relocating to ***[Chicago](https://cutt.ly/bQLnFfg)***, the group sporadically appeared on compilations and gave away a limited CD-R EP titled ***“Christmas Colors”*** in 2002, but no proper ***“Airiel”*** releases surfaced until 2003, when they initiated a series of ***“Winks & Kisses”*** EPs, each of which included one epic approaching (or exceeding) the ten-minute mark.
