If we walk down this road to the end of the line
Will we be shocked at who's been thrown aside
Will we throw up our hands and let truth stand aside
Or is there a way for our minds to survive
Once noble thoughts have descended so far
To set fires between us and not tend the scars
That while fading still fester to leave us alarmed
At our unfinished world with no guide but the stars
On the sea we float
Wondering where to go
Can we slow down
Is the world so broken that
What we need to do is
Throw the whole thing out
If we wipe out our past how will we know the way
To a world where all brothers and sisters can say
That all fruits are in reach and all games can be played
Will we fight for that goal or tear out the page
It's true that the evil are the first to fall
But then there is Seuss who once stood so tall
Will Solla Sollew be the death of us all
Or can Sneeches forgive with their backs on the wall
On the sea we float
Wondering where to go
Can we slow down
Is it me who's broken or
Should we go ahead and
Just throw it out
Oh I want to see the whole world shine
I have to believe that everything will be alright
When walls are crumbling how can the house survive
Can we plot a course and just make it out alive
Let's follow Martin looking not to the skin
And instead root our world in what lies within
In the courage and beauty that makes us all kin
If we throw down our swords then our lives can begin
Embracing differences of our lives
If we share all our gifts then we can all thrive
If we open our hearts we'll find love inside
When we see one another then peace can arrive
On the sea we float
Wondering where to go
Can we slow down
No the world ain't broken so
Can we look around and
Not throw it out
If we walk down this road to the end of the line
Will we be shocked at who's been thrown aside
Will we throw up our hands and let truth stand aside
Or is there a way for our minds to survive
Once noble thoughts have descended so far
To set fires between us and not tend the scars
That while fading still fester to leave us alarmed
At our unfinished world with no guide but the stars
On the sea we float
Wondering where to go
Can we slow down
Is the world so broken that
What we need to do is
Just throw it out
Have our dreams been stolen till
All there's left to do is
throw in the towel
Or can our hearts be open to
Fix our broken world and
Let love win out
If we walk down this road to the end of the line
Will we be shocked at who's been thrown aside
Will we throw up our hands and let truth stand aside
Or is there a way for our minds to survive

I wrote this song after listening to a conversation between Jordan B Peterson and Bret Weinstein in which they discussed evolutionary psychology, the void in society left by waning religions, the filling of that void by toxic ideology, and how we need to overcome our gene-driven nature to focus solely on propagating lineages in order to use the incredible brains evolution has given us to to do the most good in the world that we can. I was also inspired by many conversations between Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying in which they discussed the wisdom of Dr. Seuss, the danger of tribalism, and the desperate need for a societal return to quality sense making. I also am so lucky to have people in my life who love me and will tell me their honest thoughts about the songs I write when something doesn't sound quite right or some words could be better.
