Craftsman C3 Battery Tear Down, Part 7d
Let's see if this old dead battery can be brought back to life.

The 3 pair of "good" cells tested out at only ~600mAH capacity on my IMAX-B6 charger. Since that is quite low, I grabbed the two weakest of my salvaged 18650 cells that both tested around 800mAH capacity and used those to fill out the battery pack.

Since those individual cells had more capacity than the pairs of original cells, I decided to just put in 2 single cells to complete the pack.

Soldering the cut tabs back to the battery protection board worked well. First time I had tried that, so I think cutting those tabs is a good way to go if you plan to disassemble one of these packs.

The pack still fits in the case and fuel gauge plugs in and operates normally. Now I need to play around with this pack to see if I can learn how it works inside.

Up until now, I've only had the bare PCBs to play with and there is only so much one can learn trying to follow traces and reading data sheets. Especially with the main IC being designed for 3S and 4S packs and this being a 5S pack, there is some extra stuff on the PCB that is not in the typical application note schematic.

So I think next I'll try plugging this pack into my LED work light, that I built earlier, to see if the pack can at least power a load for a while:
